Welcome to Ms. Abelson's
My name is Shari Abelson and I am the visual arts teacher at Chapman School and Doolittle School. In grades K-6 , students investigate a variety of art techniques, materials and famous artists while exploring individual creative ideas and personal expression. The focus of the art program at Cheshire Public Schools is student-driven while following the new National Arts Standards which emphasizes Creating, Presenting, Responding and Connecting.
In addition to exploring the basics of painting, drawing, mixed media and collage, students experiment with sculpture, clay, digital arts, fiber arts and printmaking. Students also learn about famous artists such as Henri Matisse, Vincent Van Gogh, Faith Ringgold, Georgia O'Keefe, Louise Nevelson, Cheshire artist John Fredrick Kensett and many more.
I hope you enjoy browsing this site. Check out the tabs above to view amazing student work and to see artwork from each grade. Take a look at Cool Art Links too - I have added many links and sites that are great to use from home. Visit a museum or try something different or learn about a new artist. Lots of fun stuff to explore!
