10 of Martin Luther King's Most Inspirational Quotes

by Grace Azaula, 2019 (poster 1-21-19)

This weekend we have been blessed with an extra Monday off, conveniently in the middle of exam week. The majority of students are most likely using it to cram in some last minute studying for midterms, or are dedicating the day to catching up on their sleep. However, we often forget that this Monday was declared a national holiday, not so that we busy High School students can catch up with life, but so that we can celebrate the incredible Civil Rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He was an extraordinary man who fought against injustice, using peace and love as his weapons. So today, whether it be during a study break, or after you wake up from a long nap, take a quick glance at some of Dr. King’s most inspirational quotes:

  1. “I have decided to stick to love...Hate is too great a burden to bare”

  2. “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere”

  3. “No person has the right to rain on your dreams”

  4. “We must develop and maintain the capacity to forgive. He who is devoid of the power to forgive is devoid of the power to love. There is some good in the worst of us and some evil in the best of us. When we discover this, we are less prone to hate our enemies”

  5. “Never Succumb to the temptation of bitterness”

  6. “We must learn to live together as brothers or perish together as fools”

  7. “If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk, then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward”

  8. “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter”

  9. “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is ‘What are you doing for others?’”

  10. "I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed - we hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal."

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. may no may no longer be with us physically, but we can keep his spirit alive by treating others with the kindness and compassion that he embodied in his everyday life. Be caring. Be outspoken. Be the one who makes a change.
