Kathy Casey is a native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She received her bachelor’s in Elementary Education from Louisiana State University and her Masters Degree in Elementary Education from Piedmont College.  Mrs. Casey has had experience in elementary education for over 20 years.  Mrs. Casey and her family moved to Murphy, NC in 2002 and began teaching fourth grade at Martins Creek in 2003.  She became a National Board Certified Teacher in Literacy:  Reading-Language Arts/Early and Middle Childhood in 2007. 

Mrs. Casey strives to impart her love of reading and history, along with the power of the written word, to her fourth grade students. Her personal favorite reading genres include historical nonfiction, biography and information text.

Mrs. Casey also enjoys engaging students in the discovery and exploration of Mathematics. The use of technology, music, standards based and cooperative learning groups help her students to understand mathematical concepts and operations.

Mrs. Casey genuinely enjoys discovering new facts and areas of interest in and around Cherokee County and Western North Carolina.  After she moved to the region in 2002, she began to discover the many enjoyable areas located in western North Carolina, such as, the Hanging Dog Recreational Area, Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest, Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the Nantahala and Ocoee River Gorges.  She enjoys writing, genealogy, traveling, gardening, hiking and the scenic wonder of each changing season.
