Spelling Bee- (Mrs. Henry)
Students in all English classes are taking a spelling pre-test to determine who will be in the 7thand 8th grade spelling bees. The top 5 winners in each grade will represent Beach at the SEMMLAA District Spelling Bee.

Social Studies Olympiad (English/ SS teachers)
All Beach students are eligible to compete on the 2011 Michigan Social Studies Olympiad. The competition consists of a variety of events based on an annual theme.Contests include poetry and essay writing, collecting and interpreting editorial cartoons, and artistic design.Social studies teachers will have information for students in January, and the deadline for entering the contests is in March.Beach has had state winners in this contest every year, and we hope to continue this tradition of excellence.

National Geographic Geography Bee (Mrs. Morgans)

Everyone who is interested will be invited to compete in the preliminary contest to be held in social studies and geography classes. The winner will represent Chelsea at the state finals in April.

Quiz Bowl- Mrs. Murphy & Mr. Lott

Quiz Bowl is a fast-paced competition where two teams buzz in to answer school subject area questions. Teams consist of four or five members (depending on the year) plus an alternate, and each team competes at its own grade level. Mrs. Murphy organizes this activity. Anyone who is interested can join. Sign-ups, by grade level, take place the first week of January, during student lunch hours. Matches take place throughout January and February. Near the end of February, the two top teams from each grade level will compete in a school assembly. The winners there will then represent Beach Middle School at the Quiz Bowl regional competition in March.

World Language Club - Mrs. Boyer

Have you heard about a delicious food from Mexico or France, but have never had the chance to try it? Do you want to practice using French or Spanish outside of school? Are you interested in participating in customs from French and Spanish speaking countries? If you answered yes to any of these questions, now is your opportunity. Join the new BMS World Language Club!

The purpose of the BMS World Language Club is to encourage the study of Spanish and French while promoting diversity and cultural understanding in a relaxed, social atmosphere. Members of the club can expect to cook, create, and participate in fun, culturally focused activities.

The club is open to all 7th or 8th grade student s enrolled at Beach. We will meet twice a month after school in room 514 beginning Wednesday, November 6. Please see Mrs. Zapor or Miss Veeneman for more information.
