The SIT is a group of staff, faculty, students and parents elected by our school community. Our goal is to focus on ideas to improve Smith Middle School. We act as advisors to the district and school board on issues related to our schools. For more information on key responsibilities, see About tab.
Due to a number of factors, the April 11 meeting has been rescheduled to April 18, 2016. The agenda and location will remain the same.
Principal Holmes discussed his recent trip to China as part of a cohort of School Administrators, during which Smith adopted a sister-school. Issues with finalizing a middle-school school schedule, including the pros and cons of different proposals, were discussed. Reports from various councils and from the most recent Board of Education meeting were shared as well.
Principal Holmes reviewed discipline data and 2013-2014 growth and proficiency data. The SIT discussed the potential LEAP reorganization. Will advocate for district administrators to clarify process, publicly discuss options, and make a decision as quickly as possible.
Principal Holmes reviewed overcrowding at Smith and potential district plans to resolve the issue. He also shared Performance Series data and the SIT discussed mid-year and end-of-year testing. Performance Series results will go home with first quarter report cards. Information about Credit by Demonstrated Mastery will be shared with parents on Friday, 10/17.
