Mr. Jones's Class

Welcome to my classroom website!

I will be working throughout the year to update the site and make it a useful tool for both parents and students.  We will be incorporating a mix of NYS ELA Modules, the Scholastic ELA magazines, and high interest novels that kids are sure to love.  The curriculum and coursework is going to be challenging but is designed to help students become college and career ready.   Click here for a link to Curriculum Map for the NYS ELA Modules for grade 6 to see what standards your child will be learning about in class.

We are going to be doing some exciting and rigorous reading this year.  It will be important for students to keep up with the reading at home.  They are books that I know students and parents alike would enjoy.  With that in mind, please feel free to read the books with and to your child.

As we read, I will be adding websites for the author or the books that we are reading.  Enjoy!

You know you’ve read a good book when you turn the last page and feel a little as if you have lost a friend.

The link above provides some resources for parents to help you understand the new common core testing and curriculum including some of the modules we will be using at times this year.
Parents: Click on the link above if you would like to sign up to access your child's grades, assignments, and other records through e-school. This is a valuable tool for keeping up to date on your child's academic progress.
The above link will bring you to the website for the Newbery Medal winners and honor books. This award is given annually to the best books for kids in the 5th-8th grade range. I have never read a Newbery Medal winner that I didn't love. If you are ever lost for a great book to read, check these out. Mr. Jones has many of them on his shelves and most libraries have them too.
