Sylmar

Sylmar is a neighborhood in the North-East San Fernando valley. 

It is bounded to the North and East by the Angeles National Forest. Sylmar shares zip code 91342 with Lake View Terrace which is a geographically distinct community to the South and East. Sylmar is part of the City of Los Angeles Council District 7 and a part of the Los Angeles Unified School District

Sylmar's history goes back to the 18th century and the founding of the San Fernando Mission. Later , it was famous for its Olive Groves. 

In 1971 Sylmar was hit by a 6.5 magnitude earthquake that caused 58 deaths and more than $500 million in damage. In 2008 the Sayre fire resulted in the loss of 489 homes in and around Sylmar, the "worst loss of homes due to fire" in Los Angeles's history.
