La Crescenta is a community that is partly within the City of Glendale and partly unincorporated Los Angeles County (with its own elected Town Council), the whole community is served by the Glendale Unified School District. Set high in the foothills and separated from Los Angeles by the Verdugo Mountains. La Crescenta has 18,532 inhabitants (year 2000) and proudly calls itself “The Balcony of Southern California”. Part of the community is located within the City of Glendale, while the rest is in unincorporated Los Angeles County.

Montrose and La Crescenta are often referred to together, in fact this is exactly how Wikipedia describes them. However, in reality although they are close neighbors, they have very distinct characters. Montrose is actually a neighborhood within the City of Glendale, that has its own zip code – 91020. The community is best known for its shopping district that has been compared to the fictional community of Mayberry. While the shopping district has been featured in many movies and TV shows, it continues to be a vibrant pedestrian-friendly shopping and dining area famous also for its Farmers Market and Santa Claus flying by each year, courtesy of the Glendale Police Department, for the annual Christmas Parade.
