Math Homework

  • Week of August 14-18
This week we will start to switch classes by homeroom. Teachers will go through introductions and expectations. Students will take math timed tests in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
They will record their time and then set goals for fluency. Timed tests will be a little different this year. Students will be made aware of the 5 minute goal, but can continue working. They will record their time and then set goals for fluency each week. They then reflect on their goal and make a new one. They will be learning strategies to build number sense which will increase speed and accuracy.

Fluency is a combination of being efficient, accurate, flexible, and appropriate.
Efficiency - carries out easily, keeps track of sub-problems, and makes use of intermediate results to solve the problem.
Accuracy - reliably produces the correct answer.
Flexibility - knows more than one approach, chooses a viable strategy, and uses one method to solve and another method to double-check.
Appropriately - knows when to apply a particular procedure.
4th Grade - Summary of Revision and Planning Guidance - Arizona Mathematics Standards - Adopted 2016

Students will also be taking the math diagnostic assessment. It is a review of skills learned in 3rd grade.
