Thoughts and Reflections:

I have been teaching for 30+ years! (And still love it! Although that number makes me feel more than a little old…)

I began by teaching fifth grade at Barbara Jordan Elementary School in Odessa, Texas in 1990, and then moved to Cannon Falls Elementary School in the fall of 1997.  While in CF, I've taught fifth grade for three years, technology for four years, and then came to third grade.

I believe that every student has the right to learn...and should learn... something new every day.  I strive to teach a new concept in ways to reach each scholar's many strengths. For example, it is not uncommon to go past our classroom door and see the class "moving and grooving" to a chant to help in English, Math, or some other subject.  I also believe in allowing time for independent and personal growth, as well as partner, small group, and whole group teamwork, discussions and projects.

I believe that if one expects the best, he/she gets it.  Routine, structure, high expectations, fairness, fun, and freedom (with some firmness) are found in my classroom.  Time-management and study skills are reviewed and taught, as well as organizational skills.

As a third grader, I knew that I was going to teach.  I thoroughly enjoy learning and growing with my students and their parents each year.  Confucius stated, "I hear, and I forget.  I see, and I remember.  I do, and I understand."  When we work together to aid "our" student in a variety of ways, we all can learn and achieve great things.

My teaching philosophy centers on teaching the “whole child”. Children are intellectual, emotional, physical, and capable beings.

I look at the students in my classroom each year as my “extended family”.

I will do my very best to make sure your child feels safe, valued, and respected.

I will have your child for a short time in their trip through life — just one fleeting school year — and I want to make a contribution that lasts a lifetime.
