Jim DePrizio - High School Band

James DePrizio, High School Band Director


Mr. DePrizio is in his 35th year of service to music education.  He is in his 15th year at Centerville High School.  Previous to his current position in Centerville, Jim taught 3 years at Waterloo East High School, 2 years at Cedar Falls High School, 14 years at Keokuk High School, and 1 year at Hamilton Ill. schools.


Jim earned his Bachelor degree (1984) and Masters degree (2002) from VanderCook College of Music in Chicago, Ill.  Born and raised in Chicago, Jim attended grades K-8 in the Chicago public school system and 9-12 at Weber Catholic High School.  It was at Weber that Jim started learning the Clarinet as a 9th grade beginner.  Upon graduation from high school Jim attended Wright Jr. College as an engineering major.  After three years in the engineering program Jim changed his major to music education. It was Jim’s participation with the C.Y.O. band in LaGrange, Ill and his association with many music educators that led to his decision to change majors.


Throughout his career, his Concert bands, Marching bands, and Jazz bands have consistently earned division I ratings. His concert bands have performed at the Iowa Bandmasters conference as the class 3A honor band three times, 1990 & 1995 in Keokuk and 2006 in Centerville. His Jazz bands at Keokuk High School made finals at the Iowa Jazz championships twice finishing 2nd.  Numerous students have been selected to the Iowa All State band throughout his career including as many as 8 students selected in one year. Bands under Mr. DePrizio’s direction have traveled to Chicago Ill. (5 times), Minneapolis MN,  Gatlinburg TN, and Florida (2 times).


Mr. DePrizio has performed in ensembles as principle Clarinet, Oboe, and Trumpet.  He is a member of IBA,  SCIBA, and IAJE.  Jim is past president, treasurer and honor band chair of SEIBA.  He has also served as clinician, judge, and honor band guest director several times.


Jim and his wife Laura are the proud parents of Gabriella (11th grade) and Michael (9th grade).

In his free time jim enjoys spending time with his family, fishing, and watching the Cubs.


Tyler Morgan - Elementary Band

Mr. Morgan is in his fifth year of teaching at Centerville as the 5-6 band director. He directs the 5th and 6th grade bands, and co-directs the Howar Middle School Jazz Band. Morgan also team teaches at the jr. high and high school. Prior to teaching at Centerville, Morgan taught K-8 music at Wayne Co.(Corydon).


Tyler is a native of Centerville. He received his Bachelor's of Arts in Instrumental Music Education from Central College in Pella, Iowa in 2013. His professional memberships include IBA, SCIBA, the National Band Association, the National Education Association, and the Iowa State Education Association. Since 2012, Morgan has been the director of the Centerville Municipal Band.


Tyler currently resides in Centerville where he is involved with several civic organizations including the Appanoose Co. Historical Society, Appanoose Co. Genealogical Society, and Pancake Day Committee.

Daniel Vanderlinden - 7th & 8th Grade Band

Mr. Vanderlinden is currently in his twelfth year of teaching. He directs the 7th & 8th grade band, co-directs the Howar Middle School jazz band, and team teaches at the elementary and high school. Prior to teaching at Centerville, Daniel taught at Albia Community High School as the 9-12 Band Director (2 years). He has also served as the PK-12 Vocal and 5-12 Band Director at Moulton-Udell Community Schools (5 years), as well as the 5-12 Band Director at Seymour Community Schools (1 1/2 years).

A native of Moulton, IA, Daniel, graduated from Buena Vista University in 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Education, and holds endorsements in K-8 and 5-12 Music. His professional memberships include the Iowa Bandmasters Association and the South Central Iowa Bandmasters Association.  

Since 2010, Daniel has served as an adjudicator for various elementary and middle school events.

Daniel currently lives in Centerville with his wife, Julie, who is a special education teacher at Howar Middle School, and they have two daughters, Olivia (5th Grade) and Emersyn (1st Grade).  He is an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs, and is still celebrating their World Series championship!
