Summer Band Lesson Schedule and Letter

posted May 28, 2019, 1:29 PM by Tyler Morgan

Dear Parent(s) and/or Guardian(s):

I am excited to continue the progress that the students have been making this year though summer lessons. On the back of this letter is a copy of the lesson schedule. Some 6th grade students will be taking lessons with Mr. Vanderlinden, so please look at both schedules.  I tried to accommodate your requested lesson times whenever possible. If you don’t see your name on the schedule and you would still like to take summer lessons, please contact me as soon as possible to schedule a time.

This year we will be having one summer band instead of two in order to have a more full and balanced ensemble. The music selected will be achievable for all of the students. We have also scheduled the rehearsals at different times on Mondays and Wednesdays in hopes that everyone can make at least one of the rehearsals each week, though both would be preferred if possible. The summer band will be performing on Saturday, June 22nd, 2019 @ 10am. More information about the concerts will be communicated during the summer program.

A few important items about Summer Lessons and Band:

  • All summer band activities will take place at the Howar Middle School Band Room. Please enter through the back door to the band room (by the new gym entrance).

  • When you come for your lesson, I ask that you be a little early and get your instrument out and warm up. Students may leave as soon as they are done with their lesson/rehearsal

  • Each lesson will last approximately 25 minutes.  Some of you may have a lesson or two between your lesson time and a rehearsal time.  If this is your case, please feel free to practice in a practice room or bring a good book to read between things.

  • Please call or text if you find you are unable to attend one of your lessons for any reason.

I am looking forward to a successful summer band program this summer and in the future and appreciate the help and support from the parents and families of the Centerville Band Program which help us continue our tradition of success.

Sincerely,

Mr. Morgan

Honor Band Volunteers Needed

posted Apr 3, 2019, 5:51 AM by Tyler Morgan

Parents/Guardians,

With our honor band fast approaching I am trying to take care of some volunteer help needed for that day. In the past parents have been great about volunteering to help since we host this great opportunity for our students. There are two places we need assistance- Food donations for the concession stand and volunteers to help work the lunch shifts. A list of needed items for concessions can be found below. Additionally, we will need about 4 adults to help with each of the lunch shifts. The first shift is 10:30-11:15 and the second is 11:15-12:00. If you can help with one or both of these it would be greatly appreciated. Please contact Mr. Morgan via Remind or email with how you can help.

Items for Concession stand
Cookies or Bars (homemade or store bought)(bagged)
Grapes (washed and bagged)
Rice Krispy treats
Puppy chow (bagged)
Chex Mix (bagged)
Individual bags of chips
Little Debbie Snack cakes
Cosmic Brownies
Nutty Bars
Packages of Mini-muffins
Fruit Snacks
Small bottles of water

6-8 Solo/Ensemble Contest Postponed

posted Jan 28, 2019, 7:44 AM by Tyler Morgan

With all of the bad weather and missed school we have had over the past few weeks, we have decided to postpone the 6-8 Solo Contest that was schedule for Saturday, February 2nd. We believe that if we were to keep the contest on its original date, we would be putting many students into a situation where they would not be successful, creating a bad experience for many. We will also be cancelling all remaining 6th grade after school practices until we find a makeup date for the contest.

We believe that the process of preparing and performing a solo is a valuable learning experience for each student. For this reason, we will be looking at several different options for rescheduling the contest. We realize that by rescheduling something like this mid-year that there may be unavoidable conflicts for some families. We will do our best to accommodate as many students as possible.

2018 Summer Band Concert Info

posted Jun 13, 2018, 6:57 AM by Tyler Morgan   [ updated Jun 13, 2018, 6:58 AM ]

Dear Parent/Guardian,

Our first performance for the summer band program will be on Thursday, June 21st at 7:15 pm at the bandshell on the square. Students should arrive by 7:00 pm. They can wear casual clothes to the performance. Following our performance, there will be the weekly concert by the Municipal Band. You are encouraged to stay and enjoy the performance. The ice cream social will be sponsored by the Centerville Performing Arts Boosters. Please support them, as they support us throughout the school year. The next performance will be on Saturday, June 23rd, at the Children’s Arts Festival. The performance is at 10:00 am, also in the bandshell on the square. Students should arrive around 9:30 am. Again, the attire is casual clothing for the performance. We strongly encourage all students to perform in both concerts, if they are able. Every student is crucial in order to have a quality performance. If your student is unable to attend one of the performances, please contact either one of us. You can call or text to the following numbers listed below. We thank you for allowing your student to participate this summer!

Thank you for your continued support of the Centerville Band Program!

Sincerely,

Mr. Morgan
