Parent Involvement

Parent Involvement ChairOPEN

There are many ways to get involved as a parent at Cedar Fork Elementary.  You can volunteer in the Media Center or for Technology Classes (see below).  The PTA also has vacant positions that we would love to have you volunteer to take over!  V
olunteering is not restricted to physically being at school.  Plenty of parents volunteer by donating resources to the school and/or classroom and it is just as helpful.  Teachers always need to replenish boxes of tissue, classroom snacks (for those students who may forget their snack), and various other classroom supplies.  Contact your room parent and see what you can do to help your child's classroom.

Volunteer Registration

Please be aware that all new and returning volunteers must register and have an approved criminal background check prior to
volunteering within the Wake County Public School System.  It's easy and it helps keep our students safe at school!  Registration usually takes 5-10 minutes and reactivation, which needs to be done every school year, usually take 5 minutes or less.

Registration must be done from a Wake County school computer.
The volunteer system is available Monday-Friday from 8am-4pm in the Cedar Fork Media Center.  All volunteers for the 2016-2017 school year MUST register and have an approved criminal record check PRIOR to engaging  in volunteer work.  Applicants will be notified by email once they have approved.  Applicants that are not approved will receive notice from Employee Relations.

When registering, please make sure to have the following items with you:
  • Driver's License or Identification Card
  • Social Security number or Passport number
  • List of addresses where you have resided (outside of NC) for the past 10 years
Volunteers need to register EVERY YEAR.  If you are planning on chaperoning during a field trip, working as a tutor or classroom helper or helping at a school function, you WILL need to register in the system at least THREE WEEKS before the event.

This is a great way to meet and help our Media Teacher, Ms. Thompson.  If you have a small or large block of time in your schedule.  Parent volunteers are needed to reshelve books and various other activities during the day.  You must have attended a training session in order to volunteer.  For more information, please contact Erin Schawel (

Mrs. Shrode in the Technology classes always needs a little extra help. No prior knowledge of technology is needed.  Mostly it is simply having an extra set of hands to assist with various class activities.  You can volunteer for a specific teacher and/or time.

Contact Mrs. Shrode at for more information.
