Federal Programs are a part of the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) federal law which was passed in 2001.  The following  areas are currently a part of this federal law:

 

Title I :  Improving the Academic Achievement of the Disadvantaged

 

Title II, Part A:  Teacher and Principal Training and Recruitment

 

Title II, Part D:  Enhancing Education through Technology

 

Title III:  English Language Learners

 

Title IV:  Safe and Drug-Free Schools

 

Title VI rural and Low-Income Schools

 

Title V:  Innovative Programs

 

Migrant Education

 

Homeless Children

 

Parent Involvement

 

The Cannon County School System has completed the application for 2016-2017 federal funds for the following programs: Title I (Improving the Academic Achievement of the Disadvantaged) and Title II, Part A (Teacher and Principal Training and Recruitment. Anyone who wishes to review the approved application or offer suggestions should contact Regina Merriman at the Offices of the Cannon County Board of Education. 


On December 15, 2015, new federal legislation, the Every Student Success Act (ESSA) became federal law replacing the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act. ESSA builds upon the critical work States and Local Education Agencies (LEAs) have implemented over the past several years. During the 2016-2017 school year, Tennessee Schools will be transitioning from Implementing NCLB policies and procedures to those outlined in ESSA. Tennessee Commissioner of Education, Dr. Candice McQueen is canvasing the state gather input from educators, parents, students, and the public to determine how Tennessee school’s will implement particular components of ESSA.
