CLARKSTOWN SOUTH HS

Kelly Mulligan joins the SOUTH HS faculty as a co-teacher in (3) sections of Algebra1A and as a teacher of Geometry.

Giorgio Errico has joined South High School as a teacher of Geometry this school year.

Mary Ann Gavioli and Suzanne Pritts developed GIZMOS resources for Algebra1, Geometry, Algebra2 and PreCalculus during the summer curriculum planning.

Diana Colgan, Michael Ludwig, Stephanie Ludwig, Paula Shaffsick and Juliette Speckenbach collaborated on Algebra2 curriculum materials.

George Engel attended an AP Computer Principles workshop during the summer to develop additional resources for the AP course he teaches.

Bruce Nickels updated the classroom website for his summer project.

Maura Wright updated curriculum materials for Geometry during the summer.

Kerry Papenmeyer explored resources for the Mathematics Research Paper completed by students in her Geometry Honors classes during the summer.

The South publication Mad About Mu was awarded a gold medal in the Columbia Scholastic Press Association critique of high school publications for 2017-18. Editors were Shreya Barua, Ryan Blinn, Mia Dominick and Dev Patale with Assistant Editor Amanda Gorsky. Faculty advisor is Dr. Mary Ann Gavioli.

Two South students, Esha Pandya and Margaux Castillo were awarded SECOND PLACE for their poster

“Do High-School Students Perform Acts of Kindness?” in the 2018 Statistical Visualization Poster Contest sponsored by the American Statistics Association. Kerry Papenmeyer is the faculty advisor for the contest. The winning poster is displayed on the association’s website http://magazine.amstat.org/blog/2018/08/01/poster_projects/

Suzanne Pritts is the faculty advisor for the national Problem Solving challenge whereby students solve challenging problems.

Charles Lee is the faculty advisor for the Rockland County Math League competitions. The first competition of the year is after school on Monday, October 22, 2018 in Cafeteria 103/104.

Mary Ann Gavioli is the faculty advisor for the monthly mathematics contests held during the activity periods throughout the school year. The contests are sponsored by the American Scholastic Mathematics Association with the first one scheduled for October 9, 2018.

Juliette Speckenbach is preparing her Algebra2C students for the January 2019 Algebra2 Common Core Regents Examination.

South winners in the 2018 Mathematics Poster Contest sponsored by the Association of Mathematics Teaches of New York State are: Ruby Chambers, Alanah McKeever, Alice Jung, Michael Polk, Devan Shah and Eben Woo. They will now compete at the state level competition.
