CLARKSTOWN SOUTH HS FEBRUARY 2018

The high scorer on the February ASMA was senior Noel Lee with freshman Christopher Thomas in a close second place.

During the February Superintendent’s Conference Day, members of the mathematics department participated in a workshop on GITMOS and how to integrate into our mathematics teaching and learning.

Math teachers Meagan Bechard, Mary Ann Gavioli, John Guarino and Kerry Papenmeyer pre-screened mathematics research papers for the 2018 Greater New York Metropolitan Mathematics Fair.

Noel Lee was the first place winner in the February 2018 Rockland County Math League contest with a perfect score of solving 6 out of 6 problems correctly with Dilan Lakhani and Ben Mathew in second place. Mr. Charles Lee is the faculty advisor.

South students are preparing entries for the 2018 Pi Day Contest theme: Pi Goes to the Winter Olympics with all entries due March 1, 2018.

Ninety-seven new members were inducted into the South Hs chapter of Mu Alpha Theta on Wednesday February 28, 2018 with guest speak Alvin Mathew Class of 2012 addressing the inductees and their families. The induction program booklet was designed by Iam Zobrist and the program cover was created by Alby Alex.

South students competed in the 2018 American Mathematics Competition (AMC) on February 15, 2018. Top scorers will be reported in March 2018.

Mia Dominick, Shreya Barua and Ryan Blinn are completing work on the March 2018 issue of Mad About Mu. Advisor is Mary Ann Gavioli.

Bruce Nickels and Megan Bechard continue to prepare students for the Robotics Competition to be held in March 2018 at RCC.

Mary Ann Gavioli attended Professional Development training with Lucy West at Chestnut Grove on Feb. 14, 2018.

George Engel is pre-registered for a Summer Institute on refining the AP Computer Science Principles curriculum.

Meagan Bechard, Mary Ann Gavioli, John Guarino, Jackie Hurley, Michael Ludwig, Stephanie Ludwig, Paula Shaffsick and Juliette Speckenbach are coordinating Regents review sessions for Algebra1, Algebra2 and Geometry.
