1. Students will be able to interpret similes and metaphors.
The teacher will define both the simile and metaphor and those definitions should be discussed. Read or display the introductory poem and the students identify the similes and metaphors and what is being compared. Students will complete the Simile and Metaphor worksheet. When students are done with the worksheet, they will create a Metaphor and Simile of their own. If they have time they can illustrate and share their similes and metaphors with the class.
