Activities The Adaptation Partnership initiated a Review of Current and Planned Adaptation Action in the fall of 2010. Its purpose is to provide a baseline understanding of who is doing what on adaptation in three developing regions—Africa, Asia-Pacific, and Latin America and the Caribbean—and in priority adaptation sectors. Based on available resources, it seeks to provide a rapid assessment of: priority interests and adaptation needs; efforts by governments to support adaptation though policy and planning; the scope of international support for adaptation efforts in different countries and sectors; and potential gaps in adaptation efforts at the country and regional levels. In total, 12 regional and 114 individual country profiles were completed and may be accessed here: Africa: Burundi, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, Uganda, United Republic of Tanzania Middle Africa Regional Overview Angola, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Republic of the Congo, São Tomé e Principe North Africa Regional Overview Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco, Sudan, Tunisia, Yemen Southern Africa Regional Overview Botswana, Comoros, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Nambia, Seychelles, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia, Zimbabwe Benin, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Cote dIvoire, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Togo Asia and the Pacific: Kazakhstan, Kyrgzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan East and Southeast Asia Regional Overview Cambodia, China, Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Indonesia, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Vietnam Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Soloman Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka Latin America and the Caribbean: Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Cuba, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Haiti, Jamaica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago Central America Regional Overview Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Panama, Mexico, Nicaragua South America Regional Overview Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay, Venezuela Adaptation Partnership Regional Outreach Workshops: The Adaptation Partnership has the power to draw together practitioners to serve as a laboratory for seeking good approaches to adaptation. Participants came from small island developing states (SIDS) in the Pacific and East Timor, the Caribbean and the Indian Ocean, as well as regional and international non‐governmental organisations and development partners. The conference was opened by the Prime Minister of Samoa, the Honourable Tuilaepa Lupesoliai Sailele Malielegaoi. • Pacific Workshop Meeting Notes • Pacific Workshop Lessons for Future Action: Lessons for Future Action Conference: Climate Change Adaptation and Disaster Risk Reduction in Small Island Developing Nations (SID) - May 23-26, 2011. The workshop participants included Peruvian and other Andean researchers, graduate students, and policymakers; international researchers and graduate students, primarily from the US; and ICIMOD. Following the workshop, all the participants expressed keen interest in conducting a follow‐up conference in the Hindu Kush‐Himalaya (HKH) region. An HKH workshop would not only advance contemporary understandings of climate change challenges in the region, but would also increase opportunities for exchange and collaboration between Andean, Central Asian, and HKH scientists, graduate students, and policymakers. • Andean-Asian Glacial Lake Partnership Workshop Summary: Priority recommendations and next steps were developed by breakout working groups during the field expedition and Kathmandu workshops. • Imja Lake Video – The Mountain Institute: Reflections from an Expedition: A short video about the 2011 scientific expedition to the rapidly growing and potentially dangerous Imja lake, lead by Alton Byers of the Mountain Institute and involving specialists from 13 different countries. Nairobi, Kenya, October 24-27, 2011. • CAADP Workshop Context: Key CAADP Priorities: Over the past 18 months, 22 countries and one Regional Economic Community (REC) in Africa have developed detailed agriculture and food security strategies and investment plans within the framework of the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP). At least 20 of these have undergone, or are undergoing, a technical peer review process and are moving forward with program design and implementation. Recognizing the need for continued support during this critical period, the 7th CAADP Partnership Platform meeting, held in March 2011 in Cameroon, identified several key priorities for 2011. These priorities are: (1) sustaining CAADP implementation momentum in countries and RECs, (2) addressing CAADP’s Transformational Objectives, and (3) organizing expert support to countries for medium- to long-term strategic planning. • CAADP Meeting Documents • NEPAD Climate-Smart Agriculture Program Design Workshop Western Indian Ocean Workshop for Coastal and Marine Protected Areas: Cape Town, South Africa February 8-10, 2012 • Workshop for Coastal and Marine Protected Areas in the WIO - Workshop Agenda: Establishing Capacity Building Needs for Addressing Climate Change Impacts: A Workshop for Coastal and Marine Protected Areas in the WIO.
