The mission of Bettie Weaver Elementary School is to establish and uphold high academic standards in a safe learning environment where all students reach their potential, become life-long learners, and become productive, caring citizens. The mission will be achieved through a partnership composed of staff, students, parents, and members of the school community working together to provide a challenging educational program while promoting respect, integrity, responsibility, and a positive attitude.

Fifth grade is an exciting and challenging year in elementary school.  At this stage our students will experience a more self-directed learning environment, will be involved in small group and individual projects, are expected to have mastered math facts, and will write in cursive. At Weaver our fifth graders take part in a motivational mandatory reading program known as Passport to Reading from October to April with a short list of books being released to them at the end of 4th grade.

All students are exposed to blended-learning experiences, children’s engineering opportunities and fine arts programs. With increased maturity, strong organizational skills and effective parent/teacher guidance each 5th grader should expect to have a successful year and be well prepared for middle school.
