Winterpock Weekly Update - 6/3/17

Hi Winterpock Families! Happy June! This school year is racing to an end, and I cannot believe that it is almost time for our summer break! We will continue to have fun learning with your children over the next two weeks! Follow me on Twitter (@WPESPrincipal) to see photos highlighting our #WPESwolves as we close out the school year! We look forward to a stellar week thirty-seven of school with your children!

*Teacher Movement for the 2018-2019 School Year: We wanted to inform you that a few of our teachers are excited about transitioning to new grade levels next year! Here are a few changes:
  • Mrs. White and Mrs. Persons will be joining the 2nd grade team.
  • Mrs. Hairston will be joining the 3rd grade team.
  • Mrs. Loya, Mrs. A. Brooks, and Ms. Carr will be joining the 4th grade team.
  • Mrs. Fore will be joining the 5th grade team. 

We are also excited to welcome the following new/transfer teachers to Winterpock:
  • Mrs. Pruitt will join our 1st grade team.
  • Ms. Atkinson will join our 4th grade team.
  • Mrs. Hoover will join our 5th grade team! 

2018-2019 is going to be a FANTASTIC year!

*Donuts with Dad: Donuts with Dad is on Tuesday, June 5th (Last Names A-I), Wednesday, June 6th (Last Names J-R), and Thursday, June 7th (Last Names S-Z) at 7:45 a.m. each day.

*An Important Message from our PTA: We are thrilled that many of you have been able to purchase a surplus yearbook! There are now only 20 left! They are available for $40. If you would still like to purchase a yearbook, please fill out this Google form and submit payment (cash only). All yearbooks are scheduled to be passed out to students the last week of school. This form will turn off once we have sold out. If you should have any questions, please contact the treasurer at treasurer@winterpockpta.org. Thank you very much for support the Winterpock PTA!

*SOL Testing Reminders: The SOL Testing Window continues this week for make-up testing and expedited retakes. If your child is testing, please ensure that your child is well-rested and at school on time the morning of each SOL test. If you have any questions about SOL Testing, please email Mrs. Bare at natalie_bare@ccpsnet.net. Thank you!

*5th Grade Closing Ceremony: The 5th Grade Closing “Promotion” Ceremony will be on Wednesday, June 13th at 9:00 a.m. in the Cosby High School Auditorium. Students will need to arrive at 8:30 a.m. Please contact your child’s classroom teacher if you have any questions. Thank you!

*Last Day of School/No Lunch Served: Friday, June 15th will be an early release day with dismissal at 11:45 a.m. As in the past, no lunch will be served on the last day of school. Please feel free to send in a “heavy” snack for your child that is peanut & tree-nut free.

*CCPS Science Summer Splash Calendars for Rising 4th, 5th, & 6th Graders: Keep your children engaged in summer learning with these science activities! *Summer Camp Opportunities: Go here to see several summer opportunities hosted by the Math Science Innovation Center. Here are some summer camps hosted by John Tyler Community College.

*Volunteer Application: The CCPS Volunteer Application is now an online application! Paper applications will no longer be used. If you have already submitted a paper application for the current school year (2017-2018), you do not need to do anything at this time. If you have not filled an application and plan to volunteer for a school or PTA function for the remainder of this school year, please go here to access the online application. This link will also be added to our school website! All volunteer applications will now be screened through the CCPS Office of Safety & Security.

*Café Sign-up: Many thanks to our volunteers from last week! We love having parent volunteers during lunchtime! We have several slots left for Monday through Friday this week. Please go here to sign up. (Click on “sign up” to access the “SignUpGenius” link.)

*On the horizon:
  • Our CBG students will participate in Market Mania on Wednesday, June 6th at Clover Hill High School. I can’t wait to see their final products!
  • Our Kindergarten Word Wall Ball is this Friday, June 8th! Please ask your child’s teacher if you have any questions. We are excited to celebrate!
  • Final report cards will come home on Friday, June 15th.
