posted May 13, 2018, 3:17 PM by Laura Prymak
Hi Winterpock Families! Happy Mother’s Day to all our Winterpock Moms! We hope that you are having a beautiful day! Our Kindergartners serenaded their moms last Friday with a very special Mother’s Day Program! It was so precious! Not a dry eye in the room! Follow me on Twitter (@WPESPrincipal) to see photos highlighting our #WPESwolves throughout the week! We look forward to a phenomenal week thirty-four of school with your children!

*Kindergarten Readiness Fair: A Kindergarten Readiness Fair will be held on Thursday, May 17th. See the attached Press Release from CCPS for information on how to register for this event. Kindergarten Readiness Fair 5-17-18.pdf Kindergarten Readiness Fair 2018.pdf

*Papa John’s Pizza Teacher Delivery Night: Our PTA is partnering with Papa John’s and many of our teachers will be delivering pizza on Tuesday, May 22nd! Attached is the flyer that came home last Thursday. The link to order pizza for this special night is here! Classrooms will be competing for prizes for their teachers. Classrooms that have 65% participation will earn a class pizza party! If you have multiple students, you can list them all under one order and all of their teachers will get credit for participation. There are many other prizes that teachers will be competing for including most tips collected the night of the fundraiser. (Feel free to hold your tip for the actual delivery night versus including it online.) Teachers will deliver to any location within the Papa John’s delivery zone. If you live outside of this zone, feel free to opt for carryout. Our fabulous school counselors will be on site to greet your children! This is a FUN, new fundraising event for our staff and students! 20% of all sales and 100% of all tips will be donated to our school! We need a few more drivers to make this event a success. If you would like to sign up, go here. Thanks for your support! Winterpock ES TDN 5-22-18.pdf

*SOL Testing Reminders: The SOL Testing Window continues this week. Our students have worked diligently throughout the school year and are ready to rock the test! Please ensure that your child is well-rested and at school on time the morning of each SOL test.

Our 3rd graders will take their Math SOL Test and our 4th graders will take their Reading SOL Test on Tuesday, May 15th and Wednesday, May 16th. (A few classrooms have a different testing schedule and have been contacted by their child’s classroom teacher.) Our 5th graders will take their Science SOL Test on Thursday, May 17th. Due to SOL testing schedules and unpredictable ending times, we recommend that you do not come to eat lunch with your children on the days that they are testing. Of course, we welcome you to come on any other day!

Attached is the SOL Testing Calendar for our 3rd-5th grade students. Thank you to the many volunteers that have signed up to assist us with monitoring bathrooms during testing! Please go here if you would still like to volunteer. If your child will be absent on a testing day or have any questions about SOL Testing, please email Mrs. Bare atnatalie_bare@ccpsnet.net. Thank you! SOL Testing Calendar.pdf

*5th Grade Closing Ceremony: The 5th Grade Closing “Promotion” Ceremony will be on Wednesday, June 13th at 9:00 a.m. in the Cosby High School Auditorium. Students will need to arrive at 8:30 a.m. Information was sent home last week. Please contact your child’s classroom teacher if you have any questions. Thank you!

*Cardboard Toilet Paper Tubes: Parents are busy planning the End of Year Party for our 5th graders and need your help! They need to collect cardboard toilet paper tubes. Mrs. Bailey has agreed for her classroom to be the collection site, so please send them to Room 304. Many thanks!

*Inaugural CCPS MyON Reading Challenge: See the attached flyer! The challenge will run from Monday, March 26th through Friday, May 25th! The top 5 students in CCPS will be recognized with the top reader receiving an iPad Mini and the next four students receiving Amazon gift cards! Our students are automatically registered and minutes read are tracked through myON! Your child can access myON through their “Rapid Identity” at my.ccpsnet.net. It is located in your child’s “Backpack” on their Dashboard. Happy reading! CCPS Spring Reading Challenge.pdf
