Winterpock Weekly Update - 4/7/19

Hi Winterpock Families! I hope that you had a wonderful Spring Break! We look forward to welcoming back your children tomorrow! Here are a few updates and reminders:

*“Purple Up! For Military Kids” Day on Wednesday, April 10th: April is the Month of the Military Child. Across the State, Wednesday, April 10, 2019, will be the day to “Purple Up! For Military Kids.” Purple represents the blending of the colors of the five branches of our armed forces. Here in Virginia, we are proud to be home to Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, Navy, National Guard and Reserve families. See the attached flyer from VDOE. *Kindergarten Registration: We look forward to meeting our newest members of the Wolfpack! Kindergarten Registration will be held on Thursday, April 11th from 9:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. Parents can access the online preregistration at mychesterfieldschools.com or here. (Please share this information with your family, friends, and neighbors of first-time Kindergartners!) You can also go here for some tips from Smart Beginnings of Greater Richmond. Thank you for helping us spread the word!

*PTA Family Fun Night & Silent Auction: Join us this Friday, April 12th from 5:30-7:30 p.m. for an evening of FUN! See the PTA section below for more information! There are many fabulous items to bid on including exciting adventures with our classroom teachers, “Principal for a Day,” a designated parking spot, reserved front row seats at our 5th Grade Promotion Ceremonies…and MUCH, MUCH MORE!

*STEAM Update: Attached you will find a newsletter from Mrs. Prymak and Mrs. Simpson. See what our students learned in March! *Annual Herb Sale: There are still a few herb packages left if you would like to order them! See the attached order form. The herbs will be delivered to your child’s classroom on Wednesday, April 10th. Planting instructions will be included! Herb Packages make great Mother’s Day gifts and are perfect for every cook in your life! *Kiwanis “K-Kids” Update: Thanks to many of you, our front hallway is covered in shamrocks to support Ben and MDA! We will have a grand total for you very soon! Thanks for your generosity! Please continue to collect and send in aluminum can tabs to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House of Richmond.

*MSiC Camp Innovation 2019 & Little Innovators: Go here to see several summer opportunities hosted by the Math Science Innovation Center. You can also go here to see information about Little Innovators programs being offered for Grades K-3 students in May.

*SOL Testing Calendar: Attached is the SOL Testing Calendar for our 3rd-5th grade students. We will keep you informed of any revisions to this calendar as we get closer to the testing window. *Winterpock Absence Excuse Form: You can excuse your child's absences by completing a Google Form! The link to the form is attached here and available in the “Resources” tab of our school website. (You do not need to send in a paper note and/or call our school clinic if you fill out this form.) If you have any questions regarding this form, please contact our school office at (804) 763-5051. Thank you!

*On the Horizon:
  • Our 3rd graders will perform their Musical on Tuesday, April 23rd! There are two separate performances. Half of the grade level will perform at 6:15 p.m. and the other half will perform at 7:15 p.m. Look for more information from Mrs. Hamlin, Mr. Smalls, and your child’s classroom teacher!
  • 5th Grade Promotion Ceremony “Save the Date” – Guilliams, Ogburn, Smith, Frey, and Bailey will be on Monday, June 10th, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Hoover, Fore, Papiernik, and VanDusen will be on Tuesday, June 11th, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Both ceremonies will take place in the Cosby High School Auditorium.

*On behalf of the PTA…
  • Members of the Wolfpack Running Club will meet on Wednesday, April 10th!
  • The next PTA Meeting will be held on Thursday, April 11th at 6:30 p.m. in the cafeteria.
  • The PTA will host a Family Fun Night & Silent Auction this Friday, April 12th from 5:30-7:30 p.m. See the attached flyer for more information.   • Donuts with Mom is on Monday, April 22nd (Last Names A-D), Tuesday, April 23rd (Last Names E-K), Wednesday, April 24th (Last Names L-Q), and Thursday, April 25th (Last Names R-Z) at 8:45 a.m. each day.

  • Box Tops for Education: Thank you for continuing to send in Box Tops! The Box Top Contest will end on April 30th. Top 3 classes will earn a snow cone party! Remember to label the bag of Box Tops that you send in with the name of your child’s teacher to ensure that your child’s classroom gets credit! 
  • If you haven’t already, please support our Winterpock Wolfpack by joining our PTA!
