Winterpock Weekly Update - 2/3/19

posted Feb 3, 2019, 3:43 PM by Laura Prymak
Hi Winterpock Families! It is hard to believe that it is February and that we are in the 3rd quarter of this school year! Last week, our students enjoyed shopping at our Book Fair! Many thanks to all of our volunteers that helped make this event a success! If you follow me on Twitter (@WPESPrincipal), you will see photos highlighting our #WPESwolves throughout the week! We look forward to a terrific week twenty-two of school with your children!

Here are a few updates and reminders:

*School Counselor Appreciation Week: This week, February 4th-8th, is School Counselor Appreciation Week! Help us celebrate Ms. Cox (Grades K, 1, 2) and Mrs. Delaney (Grades 3, 4, 5)!

*Health Update: The safety and well-being of our students and staff members remains a top priority for us. We are aware of the national reports about an increase in reported flu cases. Our custodial team is ramping up their work as a result. As they are currently doing, they will continue to wipe down desk and cafeteria areas, and have been reminded to use disinfectant on door knobs, light switches, water fountain handles, etc. CCPS has asked that they do this on a regular basis throughout the day. (Many teachers also wipe down their desks often! I know I did this daily when I taught!) Mrs. Link, our school nurse is reviewing daily clinic data to look for any trends of illness. We will keep custodians and classroom teachers informed if extra attention is needed in any area. Your child is more than welcome to bring in their own hand wipes and/or sanitizer to use in class. Our goal is also to keep our students and staff members safe and healthy! Thanks for your support!

*STEAM Update: Attached you will find a newsletter from Mrs. Prymak and Mrs. Simpson. See what our students learned in January! Thanks for continuing to support our STEAM Lab! Winterpock_January STEAM Newsletter_2019.pdf

*American Heart Association Kids Heart Challenge: Our annual event begins soon! Go to this link to sign up for the event. Just scroll down on the page and type in our school name. Stay tuned for more information from Mr. Baytop and Mr. Jones! Students will “kick off” this event during their resource classes on February 21st. Our goal is to raise $20,000! We look forward to supporting the American Heart Association!

*A Message from Mrs. Witham & Mrs. Robinson: Greetings from the Library! We are excited to let you know that students who have purchased a February Birthday Book will come to the library on Friday, February 22nd to celebrate in our Birthday Book Club. If you have not sent in a form yet and would like to participate, there is still time! Please turn in the attached form by Tuesday, February 19th if you would like for your child to participate in the February Birthday Book Celebration. Thanks for your support! *Celebrating Black History Month: During the month of February, we will honor the achievements and contributions made by African Americans on the morning announcements. Please ask your child to share with you what they learn! Attached is a flyer shared by CCPS regarding events happening around the county. CCPS Black History Month Events Flyer.pdf

*A Message from our K-Kids: K-Kids are continuing to collect aluminum can tabs in the huge bin in the front of the school near the cafeteria to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House of Richmond. Thanks for sending them in throughout the school year! Look for information regarding a snack collection in my next Sunday email!
