Winterpock Weekly Update - 2/10/19

posted Feb 10, 2019, 4:02 PM by Laura Prymak   [ updated Feb 10, 2019, 4:03 PM ]
Hi Winterpock Families! I hope you are having a fun weekend! There is a lot of information this week, so I’ll do my best to keep each section brief! Ms. Parnell had a great time celebrating our CCPS Reflections participants yesterday while I was at a swim meet across town. Mrs. Malcolm and I got to attend a CharacterWorks Show today. We love seeing our Wolfpack students excel outside of the classroom! If you follow me on Twitter (@WPESPrincipal), you will see photos highlighting our #WPESwolves throughout the week! We look forward to a thrilling week twenty-three of school with your children!

Here are a few updates and reminders:

*PTA Spirit Night: There is a WPES Spirit Night at Buffalo Wild Wings this Wednesday, February 13th, from 5:00-9:00 p.m. Thanks for your support!

*Early Release Day: Friday, February 15th, is an Early Release Day. Dismissal will begin at 12:45 p.m. Please send in a “paper” note to your child’s classroom teacher in your child’s daily folder if your child will have a transportation change on Friday afternoon. Thank you! Just a reminder…if you need to access the office on Friday afternoon for parent pick-up, you can drive around the car line until 12:50 p.m. After, 12:50 p.m., please wait in the car line until you can access the parking lot safely. Many thanks for your help with this!

*PTA Outreach Committee & K-Kids Snack Collection for Chalkley Elementary School: Our Winterpock PTA Outreach Committee is teaming up with our K-Kids to hold a Snack Donation Drive this week, February 11th-15th, for Chalkley Elementary. Please see the attached flyer. Many thanks for all that you do throughout the school year to assist our “adopted” sister schools! Chalkley is VERY appreciative of our support! *Reminder about Morning Arrival/Information for New Safety Patrols: Please continue to wait in the car line until we get traffic moving at 9:05 a.m. Cars needing to access the parking lot before 9:05 a.m. should use the left turn lane to go around those of you waiting and safely access the right lane to enter one of our parking lots. Remember, we do not want anyone driving into oncoming traffic to access either parking lot! If it is past 9:05 a.m., you will need to wait in the line. Staff will always be available to direct traffic once it is moving to assist with keeping everyone safe!

For Parents of Safety Patrols: You can drive around the car line until 9:05 a.m. If you plan to drive your safety patrol to school, please arrive by 9:05 a.m., park in the parking lot, and wait with your student in your vehicle until 9:05 a.m. Your safety patrol can also ride the bus. Staff will release them from the bus prior to 9:10 a.m., so they can get to their post in time. Thanks for your patience as we try to keep everyone safe!

*Health Update: The safety and well-being of our students and staff members remains a top priority for us. We are aware of the national reports about an increase in reported flu cases. Our custodial team is ramping up their work as a result. As they are currently doing, they will continue to wipe down desk and cafeteria areas, and have been reminded to use disinfectant on door knobs, light switches, water fountain handles, etc. CCPS has asked that they do this on a regular basis throughout the day. (Many teachers also wipe down their desks often! I know I did this daily when I taught!) Mrs. Link, our school nurse is reviewing daily clinic data to look for any trends of illness. We will keep custodians and classroom teachers informed if extra attention is needed in any area. Your child is more than welcome to bring in their own hand wipes and/or sanitizer to use in class. Our goal is also to keep our students and staff members safe and healthy! See the attached CCPS “Sick-Day Guidelines” for additional information. Thanks for your support! *Winterpock Absence Excuse Form: We are now offering a convenient, new way to excuse your child's absences! A Google Form is now available for you to fill out. The link is attached here and will be added to the “Resources” tab of our school website soon. (You are welcome to continue to send in paper notes and/or call our school clinic at (804) 763-5061, but hope that this is a more convenient option for you.) If you have any questions regarding this form, please contact our school office at (804) 763-5051. Thank you!

*“School-Wide” STEAM Challenge Donations: Mrs. Prymak and Mrs. Simpson are working on facilitating a “School-Wide” STEAM Challenge to “kick off” Dr. Seuss Week on Monday, February 25th! All students will participate at the same time that morning! We need your help in providing supplies for all classrooms. If you would like to donate pipe cleaners, tissue paper, pom poms, or clay, for your child’s grade level, please click on the sign-up here. Thanks for continuing to support our STEAM Lab!
