Winterpock Weekly Update - 12/2/18

posted Dec 2, 2018, 4:14 PM by Laura Prymak
Hi Winterpock Families! Happy December! Many thanks to the volunteers that helped to make the PTA Holiday Shop a success! Our students had a great time! Last week, our third graders proudly shared their Gift of Writing. So impressed with their voice and expression! If you follow me on Twitter (@WPESPrincipal), you can see photos highlighting our #WPESwolves! Week thirteen was tremendous! We look forward to a fantastic week fourteen of school with your children!

Here are a few updates and reminders:

*SNACK Reminder: Please continue to send in a snack that is “peanut & tree nut free" and is not "manufactured in a facility with peanuts & tree nuts." Thank you for reminding your child that items that are for lunch must be eaten in the cafeteria and cannot be eaten for snack in the classroom unless they are “peanut & tree nut free.” Many parents label snack and put it in a different location in the backpack to help prevent any confusion…and we really appreciate this! Thanks for helping us keep all of our students safe!

*Publix Partner: In case you didn’t know, Winterpock Elementary is now enrolled in the Publix Partners “Earn Money for Schools” Program! Each year, Publix donates more than $30 million to over 4,500 schools to support education. Earning funds for Winterpock Elementary is as easy as entering your phone number every time you shop! To get started, follow the attached steps to link your Publix account to our school. Many thanks! Steps for Signing up for a Publix Partners account.pdf

*STEAM Update: Attached you will find a newsletter from Mrs. Prymak and Mrs. Simpson. See what our students learned in November! Thanks for continuing to support our STEAM Lab! November STEAM Newsletter_2018.pdf

*A Message from Mrs. Witham & Mrs. Robinson: Greetings from the Library! We are excited to let you know that students who have purchased a December Birthday Book will come to the library on Friday, December 7th to celebrate in our Birthday Book Club. If you have not sent in a form yet and would like to participate, there is still time! Please turn in the attached form by Wednesday, December 5th if you would like for your child to participate in the December Birthday Book Celebration. Thanks for your support! *Attendance Reminders: Just a quick reminder about the Winterpock Attendance Policy and procedures. Here are some helpful tips from Allison Rothschild, our School Social Worker, as we go into the winter!
  • Please call the Clinic Line at 763-5061 and leave a message in the clinic on the day that your child is going to miss school, especially if it is due to illness.
  • If your child has missed school due to illness, please remember to send in any written notes or medical documentation stating the reason the child missed school on the day he/she returns to school.
  • If your child reaches 5 unexcused absences, the school will be contacting you to communicate about your child missing valuable class time and to see how we can assist.
  • CCPS policy requires that students not miss more than 10% of an academic year for any reason.
  • Attached are two great resources for parents including CCPS Sick Day Regulations and a document for Elementary Students and their parents about attendance. CCPS - Every Day Counts - Attendance for Elementary Parents - Fall 2018.pptx Sick Day Guidelines Brochure.pdf
  • Remember that hand washing is a great way to combat colds and flu this season!!!

*Lost & Found: If you haven’t already, stop by the “Lost & Found” in the cafeteria! There are several coats and sweatshirt that have been found!

*2018-2019 MS-ISAC “Kids Safe Online” Poster Contest: Students in grades kindergarten through twelve are invited to participate in the Commonwealth of Virginia’s Kids Safe Online Poster contest. The contest is sponsored by the Virginia Information Technologies Agency (VITA) in conjunction with the Multi-State Information Sharing and Analysis Center (MS-ISAC). This is a national contest which encourages our youth to use the Internet safely and securely. Attached are the official rules, entry form and information regarding the poster topics and technical specifications. MS-ISAC-Poster-Contest-and-Form.pdf
