Winterpock Weekly Update - 11/4/18

posted Nov 4, 2018, 3:11 PM by Laura Prymak
Hi Winterpock Families! Last week was busy as we completed our first quarter of the 2018-2019 school year! We enjoyed seeing our students in their “college gear” on Friday and loved celebrating the many students that earned “Positive Pack” Office Referrals throughout the week! Follow me on Twitter (@WPESPrincipal) to see photos highlighting our #WPESwolves! We look forward to a terrific week ten of school with your children!

Here are a few updates and reminders:

*Important Reminders from the Office: (Thanks for your help with these items!)
  • When picking up your child from school, please have your photo ID with you.
  • If there is a change in your child’s afternoon transportation, please send a written note to his/her teacher that morning. Notes will be sent to the office in our daily classroom folders. If an emergency arises during the day and you need to make a change to afternoon transportation, please call the office at (804) 763-5051. Please do not email the classroom teacher. (We worry that a teacher may not receive an email prior to dismissal and want to ensure that all children arrive home safely!)
  • We kindly ask that you please do not make changes after 3:15 p.m. Again, this will help us get everyone to the correct place!
  • IMPORTANT: Please inform your child’s daycare if there will be a change in the afternoon! Many thanks!

*Parent-Teacher Conference Day/No School for Students: Parent-Teacher Conference Day will be on Tuesday, November 6th. Our teachers are excited to meet with you about your children! There is no school for students on Monday, November 5th or Tuesday, November 6th.

*Veterans Day Program/Wear Red, White, & Blue: Our 2nd grade students will perform a Veterans Day Program on Friday, Nov. 9th at 10:00 a.m. in the Cafeteria. Let’s all show school spirit and wear red, white, and blue to observe this special day!

*STEAM Lab & STEAMmania Updates: Attached you will find a newsletter from Mrs. Prymak and Mrs. Simpson. See what our students learned in October! We were extremely pleased to have a high level of interest in representing Winterpock at the Chesterfield County’s 2019 STEAMmania competition. We received over 200 applications! Our STEAM committee selected students based on their ability to work together as cooperative and collaborative team members. Each elementary school is able to bring a maximum of 36 kindergarten-second grade students and a maximum of 36 third grade-fifth grade students to participate in STEAMmania. We are proud to say, for the first time ever, that Winterpock will have a team competing in each event! Selected students have received notification letters. We regret that we cannot take more students and would like to invite everyone to attend CCPS STEAM Family Day on March 2, 2019, which will be held at the Science Museum of Virginia. Families will enjoy free admission to the Science Museum and will be able to complete many STEAM challenges! More information will be coming home soon. We hope to see you all there! Thanks for your continued support of our STEAM Lab! October STEAM Newsletter 2018.pdf

*A Message from Mrs. Witham & Mrs. Robinson: Greetings from the Library! We are excited to let you know that students who have purchased a November Birthday Book will come to the library on Friday, November 16th to celebrate in our Birthday Book Club. If you have not sent in a form yet and would like to participate, there is still time! Please turn in the attached form by Monday, November 12th if you would like for your child to participate in the November Birthday Book Celebration. Thanks for your support! *A Message from Boosterthon: We are a few days away from our Boosterthon Fun Run Kick-Off! When we hit our goal of $40,000, the top student in each class will have a chance to Silly String Mrs. Dubiel! Pledging will open on October 31st. The official Kick-Off will be November 7th and our Fun Run will be on November 16th! See the attached flyer! We will need volunteers to assist with handing out water on Friday, November 16th during each grade level run. A sign-up genius will be sent out this week! Thank you for your support!
