Winterpock Weekly Update - 11/26/17

posted Nov 26, 2017, 3:14 PM by Laura Prymak
Hi Winterpock Families! We hope you had a wonderful break with your families! Even though last week was a short week, it was a busy one! Our 2nd & 3rd graders enjoyed a performance of Pinocchio by the VA Repertory Theatre and our Kindergartners performed a Thanksgiving Celebration for their families! If you follow me on Twitter (@WPESPrincipal), you can see photos highlighting our #WPESwolves! Week twelve was tremendous! We look forward to a terrific week thirteen of school with your children!

Here is the weekly update:

*Kiwanis “K-Kids” Meeting: Students that are members of K-Kids will meet on Monday, November 27th from 3:00-3:45 p.m. in the Cafeteria.

*CogAT: All 3rd graders will take the CogAT during this week beginning on Tuesday, November 28th.

*Picture Make Up/Retakes Day: Students that are new to Winterpock, were absent on picture day, or need to retake pictures will be called to the stage on Wednesday, November 29th in the morning. Students needing a retake should bring their original picture package with them, so that Candid Color knows what to reprint. Thanks!

*Attendance “Early Out” Clarification: Two years ago, when "early dismissals" started being tracked on the report card, all signing out had to take place in the office. This includes after special programs, field trips, class parties, etc. To my knowledge, signing out in the classroom was eliminated to prevent confusion as leaving early for any reason other than illness, medical appointment, court appearance, or death in the family is considered an unexcused "early dismissal" and is documented on the report card. Many thanks to our Kindergarten families for their patience as we signed out about 100 students in less than 15 minutes last Tuesday! If there are any revisions to these procedures, we will let you know!

*Important ARRIVAL Information: Thank you for your help with keeping our students safe in the morning! Please remember to keep your children in your vehicles until 8:05 a.m. as we do not have staff available to monitor them until that time. A huge THANK YOU to all of you for using only the right lane to access parking lots! Mrs. Malcolm and I will continue to assist with the flow of traffic in the morning…and to prevent cars from driving into the wrong lane around the median. We love greeting you each morning and appreciate you helping us keep everyone safe!

*Winterpock Reading Challenge: During Week Eleven, we read 61,721 minutes! Our official total after eleven weeks is 927,029 minutes read as a school! I wonder if we can reach 1,000,000 minutes before December! Please continue to write the total number of minutes read in the “total minutes” column and initial. Teachers will continue to log total minutes into our school spreadsheet on Mondays. Spirit sticks will be awarded to students that read 1,000 (or more) minutes during the entire Reading Challenge. The top readers in each class will duct tape Mrs. Dubiel to the wall after the 100th day of school!

*Lost & Found: If you haven’t already, stop by the “Lost & Found” in the cafeteria! There are several coats, sweatshirts, and lunchboxes that have been found! We will donate unclaimed items in December before Winter Break.

*Aluminum Can Tabs: Our K-Kids will start collecting aluminum can tabs soon! Start collecting now to help them raise money for the Ronald McDonald House of Richmond!

*Café Sign-up: Many thanks to our volunteers from last week! We love having parent volunteers during lunchtime! We have several slots left for Monday through Friday this week. Please go here to sign up. (Click on “sign up” to access the “SignUpGenius” link.)

*On the horizon:
