posted Oct 28, 2018, 3:05 PM by Laura Prymak
Hi Winterpock Families! Can you believe that we are almost at the end of the first marking period of school?!! Time is flying! Last week, our Kindergarten and 1st grade students got to see a performance by the Richmond Ballet and our 2ndand 3rd grade students enjoyed a performance of the “Mysteries of Ancient Egypt” by the VA Repertory Theatre. Follow me on Twitter (@WPESPrincipal) to see photos highlighting our #WPESwolves throughout the week! We look forward to a noteworthy week nine of school with your children!

Here are a few updates and reminders:

*Literacy Fair: The Office of Family and Community Engagement, in collaboration with the Department of Special Education and the Department of Teaching and Learning, is hosting a Literacy Fair on Monday, October 29, 2018. This event will be held at the Chesterfield Technical Center, 13900 Hull Street Road from 5:45-8:15 p.m. In addition to a wide variety of topics designed to support all readers, there will be SEVERAL break-out sessions and resources for students with dyslexia and other learning differences. See the attached flyer. Literacy Fair Ad.pdf

*College & Career Readiness Month: November is College and Career Readiness Month across the county! Help us celebrate “Winterpock Goes to College Day!” on Friday, November 2nd by wearing your favorite college gear! (I’ll definitely be supporting JMU on this day! Go DUKES!) Our school counselors will also provide career-themed classroom activities for K-5 Pack Meetings throughout the month. Career and college facts will be read over the announcements. Many thanks to Ms. Cox, Mrs. Delaney, and many of our staff members for providing our students with engaging activities throughout the month!

*CAUTION: The traffic pattern has changed at Harpers Mill Parkway and Otterdale Road right near our school now that Otterdale Road is open. This is NOT a 4-way stop. There are two stop signs located on both sides of Harpers Mill Parkway and NO stop signs on Otterdale Road. Just wanted you to be aware that the cars on Otterdale Road have the right of way at this intersection. We just want to keep all of you safe!

*School Spirit Days: Every Friday is a school spirit day, and we encourage your children to wear their Winterpock spirit wear! About once a month, we will have “extra-special” school spirit days. (We are also trying to balance this with class rewards that are earned with Positive Paws to meet the needs of everyone!) In November, we will wear our college gear! In December, we will have a school-wide pajama day! We will have many fun days in February for Dr. Seuss Week including dressing up as a favorite Dr. Seuss character! I’ll keep you informed on these special dates in my weekly email!

*Daylight Savings Time ends on Sunday, November 4th. Set your clocks back one hour!

*Vocelli’s Adopt-a-Community: We are so excited that Vocelli’s Pizza has adopted Winterpock for the month of October! 2% of the sales for the month of October from the Deer Run location will be donated to our school to support students and teachers! Encourage your friends and family to eat at Vocelli’s (12040 Southshore Pointe Drive, Midlothian, VA 23112) during October! There are only a few days left in October! Thank you so much for supporting our school! Adopt-a-Community-Flyer-Winterpock.pdf

*A Message from Boosterthon: We are two weeks away from our Boosterthon Fun Run Kick-Off! Learn all about it by watching this short video with your child. When we hit our goal of $40,000, the top student in each class will have a chance to Silly String Mrs. Dubiel! Pledging will open on October 31st. The official Kick-Off will be November 7th and our Fun Run will be on November 16th!

*End of the 1st Marking Period: Friday, November 2nd is the end of the first marking period! This is a FULL day of school.
