posted Oct 20, 2019, 3:41 PM by Laura Prymak

Hi Winterpock Families!  I hope that you had a fantastic weekend!  Many thanks to all of our parent volunteers that assisted with our Field Days last week!  They were a huge success!  Follow me on Twitter (@WPESPrincipal) to see photos highlighting our #WPESwolves throughout this week!  We look forward to an excellent week eight of school with your children!

Here are a few updates and reminders:

*National School Bus Safety Week:  National School Bus Safety Week is October 21st-25th.  Our bus drivers are fantastic!  Let’s celebrate our bus drivers on Wednesday, October 23rd!  (This is a surprise for them!)  Please see the attached memo.  We appreciate your help in reviewing bus safety at home.  Thanks for helping us support our bus drivers!  Bus Driver Appreciation Week 2019.pdf

*Counselor’s Corner:  See the attached update from our school counselors, Ms. Cox, Mrs. Delaney, and Mrs. Murray!  Counselor Corner October 2019 - Bullying Prevention Month.pdf

*PTA Reflections: The theme is “Look Within.” The deadline for entries is this Thursday, October 24th!  Go here for more information and to access the entry form.

*A Message from Mrs. Robinson & Mrs. Witham:  Greetings from the Library!  We are excited to let you know that students who have purchased an October Birthday Book will come to the library on Friday, October 25th to celebrate in our Birthday Book Club.  If you have not sent in a form yet and would like to participate, there is still time!  Please turn in the attached form on or before Monday, October 21st if you would like for your child to participate in the October Birthday Book Celebration.  Even if you pay online, please still send in the attached form.  Thanks for your support!  WPES Birthday Book Program.pdf

*A Message from Mrs. Prymak & Mrs. Simpson about STEAMmania:  STEAMmania is an event sponsored by Chesterfield County Public Schools that occurs at Cosby High School on Saturday, January 11, 2020.  It is a day of challenges, learning, and fun centered on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics.  Students will work in teams during on-site challenges to solve a problem using the knowledge of two or more STEAM contents.  Each elementary school is able to bring a limited number of students to participate in this event.  Students will be selected based on their ability to work together as a cooperative and collaborative team member.  Please fill out the digital STEAMmania Interest Form here.  This form is due digitally by 4:00 p.m. on Monday, October 21st.  Many thanks for your continued support of our STEAM Lab!

*Dress Like Your Favorite Book Character Day:  See the attached flyer.  Friday, October 25th, is Dress Like Your Favorite Bool Character Day!  Dress Like Your Favorite Book Character Day - 10-25-19.pdf

*Vocelli’s Adopt-a-Community:  We are so excited that Vocelli’s Pizza has adopted Winterpock again for the month of October!  2% of the sales for the month of October from the Deer Run location will be donated to our school to support students and teachers!  Encourage your friends and family to eat at Vocelli’s (12040 Southshore Pointe Drive, Midlothian, VA 23112) during October!

*A Message from our K-Kids:  Winterpock's K-Kids are continuing to collect pop tops (can tabs). Last year 89.3 lbs. were delivered to The Ronald McDonald House.  This year we have entered the School Pop Top Challenge to see which school in the RVA area will collect the most pop tops. To allow larger and smaller schools to compete equally, schools will compete to see who can collect the highest average pounds of pop tops per student!  We are already off to a great start!  Let's surpass last year's collection and win this reward!!!

*Change in Child’s Afternoon Transportation:  THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!  If there is a change in your child’s afternoon transportation, please send a written note to his/her teacher.  Please use the attached note.  (This is a different form that last year!  It is easier to fill out!)  Notes will be sent to the office in our daily classroom folders.  If an emergency arises during the day and you need to make a change to afternoon transportation, please call the office at (804) 763-5051.  Emails will not be accepted for any transportation changes.  We also kindly ask that you please do not make changes after 3:15 p.m.  This will help us get everyone to the correct place!

*Winterpock Absence Excuse Form:  Please document your child's absences by completing our Google Form.  The link to the form is attached here and available in the “Resources” tab of our school website.  If you have any questions regarding this form, please contact our school office at (804) 763-5051.
