I am both humbled and honored to have been named JB Watkins’ Teacher of the Year. I am humbled because all teachers here at Watkins are outstanding, creative, and passionate educators who make magic happen for our students every single day. They inspire me on a daily basis! I am honored to be part of such a remarkable group of educators.

I began my teaching career at a Higher Order Thinking School (HOT School), in Colchester, Connecticut. While there, I taught grades 3 and 4, was the science coordinator, and the HOT School site coordinator for the district. In addition to my teaching, I joined the State’s Higher Order Thinking School’s core faculty, providing professional development for schools across the state in arts integration, democratic practice, and student engagement. Each summer, I go back to continue my work with Connecticut HOT Schools.

My family and I moved to Virginia five years ago due to my husband’s job being relocated to Richmond. Lucky for me, Chesterfield became my new school community. For 3 years I taught 5th grade at Ettrick Elementary School and became a Project Based Learning Capacity Builder for the county. For the past two years I have had the distinct pleasure of teaching and learning from amazing third graders here at J.B. Watkins. I am proud to be part the J.B. Watkins' family.

I love my job and cannot imagine any career other than one in education! Proudly, I represent you all as this year’s J.B. Watkins’ Teacher of the Year!
