Welcome to this week's edition of the TCMS Timberwolf Tip Sheet, a weekly newsletter to help keep parents informed about what is going on around Tomahawk Creek MS. Every Thursday we will send out this informational e-mail to help communicate the great things going on here at Tomahawk Creek MS. Each week, we will send out an electronic newsletter with information and important events and dates for parents. Please take a few minutes each week to read the newsletter so that you can stay informed about all the happenings at TCMS.

  • Timberwolf Tip Sheet

    • This is the last edition of the Tip Sheet for the 2017-18 school year. We wish all of you a safe, enjoyable and relaxing summer break! See you in September of 2018!

  • Bus Notes

    • There will be NO BUS NOTES on Friday, June 15. ALL students must ride home on their bus this day. Your cooperation is appreciated.

  • Acapella Club

    • Attention 6th and 7th Graders!  Do you like to sing? Do you have rhythm?  Do you love acapella music? Then we have the group for you!  Next year, TCMS will have an acapella club! If you are interesting in joining our group for the 2018-19 school year, please come to an informational meeting this Friday,  June 8, after school. We will meet in Room 816. Have your ride pick you up at 3:45. For more information, see Mrs. Johnson in room 816.

  • TCMS Garden Club

    • Mrs. Necessary and Mrs. Mashburn are starting a new community club next year:  the TCMS Garden Club. This club is open to students and parents who wish to care for our school garden and learn about establishing a vegetable garden at home.  An informational meeting for those interested in learning more about the club will be held on Thursday, June 7th from 3:05 - 3:35 p.m. in the library. All are welcome!

  • High School Camps and Tryouts

    • Track and Field Camp

      • Are you interested in a Track and Field Summer Camp from July 9-13 at Swift Creek Middle School? If so registration has begun. Come to the main office for a flyer.

    • Basketball Camp

      • Interested in a Summer Boys’ Basketball Camp at Manchester High School, if so come to main office for flyer.

    • The 2018 Midlothian Basketball Camp will run from June 18-21 this year at Midlothian High School. All students interested in attending please pick up an application form in the main office.Thank you so much for all your help!

  • SOL Testing Schedule Information

    • As we approach the SOL testing window, we have posted the testing schedule on our website under “Announcements”. Please review the schedule with your Timberwolf.

    • We cannot allow early dismissals while a student is in a testing block. Even if they are finished, they cannot leave the classroom for dismissal. Please DO NOT come and check out your Timberwolf during the testing block.

  • Cheerleading Tryouts

    • TCMS Cheerleading tryouts will be held Tuesday, June 5th through Friday, June 8th from 3:30pm until 5:30pm. Rising 6th, 7th and 8th graders are eligible to tryout. Students must complete an Athletic Physical, Concussion form, and Grades/Permission Slip in order to participate in tryouts. All paperwork is available in the front office. Please contact Ms. Lawman at melinda_lawman@ccpsnet.net for any further questions.  

  • New Elective Course for 2018-19

    • We have an exciting new Computer Art elective offering at Tomahawk Creek next year for rising 7th and 8th graders. Please see your respective counselor if you are interested! Here is the course description.

    • Computer Art is a beginning level semester course in the use of the computer, and camera, as artistic and creative tools. Students will learn basic photography skills and learn to edit and enhance their digital photos using the software Adobe Photoshop Elements. They will learn how to layer multiple pictures together and use special effects.

    • Students will use digital cameras (provided) to produce creative projects. Examples of some of the projects students will create include:

    • Illusion of depth graphics, fantasy graphics and special effects self portrait graphics, magazine cover designs, packaging design, sign language graphics, surrealist images, multiple self portrait graphics and digital portfolios of graphic artwork.

    • The elements and principles of design will be emphasized in the creation of these digital images.

  • TCMS Garden Club

    • Mrs. Necessary and Mrs. Mashburn are starting a new community club next year:  the TCMS Garden Club. This club is open to students and parents who wish to care for our school garden and learn about establishing a vegetable garden at home.  An informational meeting for those interested in learning more about the club will be held on Thursday, June 7th from 3:05 - 3:35 p.m. in the library. All are welcome!

    • Come out to our Flying Squirrels night at the Diamond on Saturday, June 9th at 6:05pm. Flyers went home and $9 tickets will be sold through first block teachers and the PTA. See attached flyer or the link on tcmspta.com.  If we sell 100 tickets, Dr. Ellena will get to throw out the first pitch! Help support our spring fundraising event!

    • Attention parents of 8th graders: The PTA sponsored 8th grade fun day will be held on the last day of school from 9:30-11:30. We will have DJ Rick, the Kona Ice truck, and an Xtreme Inflatable in the gym. Have your students wear their high school spirit wear if they have it!     • This year the county IS collecting chargers for Chromebooks at the end of the year for EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS ONLY. this is due to the fact that the model used in high school is incompatible with the middle school Chromebook. Please plan accordingly.

      • Do You Love to Dance? Cosby High School Dance Team tryouts are May 29- May 31 in the Cosby Gym from 3 to 5.

    • Thanks to Chrystal Oley and her committee and to all of the parents who  helped with Teacher Appreciation Week last week. Our teachers felt pampered!

We will have some special guest speakers, the debut of our "TCMS 10 Year Anniversary" video, a plaque unveiling and a Slideways Mobile Bistro food truck will be outside. There will be special displays from current students for each subject area. We would LOVE to have as many former TCMS students and parents as possible! Come back and see your former teachers and see how the school has grown! May 17th from 4-6PM! Spread the word!

  • Science Department Request

    • Does anyone still have any old hot wheels track sets at home that your kids don't play with anymore?

    • If so, the Science Department looking for the TRACK CONNECTORS for a project. They come in orange or white (maybe other colors also).

  • Craig and Fred Drive

    • Our action book club recently read Craig & Fred, a book about a soldier and a dog he found in Afghanistan and how they saved each other. May 7-17 we will be selling Craig’s book and collecting money for Puppy Rescue Mission which supports veterans and their dogs.

    • Two Ways to Donate

    • Monetary donations for Puppy Rescue Mission will be collected in 1st block classes.  Class in each grade level with highest donations wins a DONUT PARTY!

    • Books are $15.00 and $3.00 per book sold goes to Puppy Rescue Mission.  Books will be on sale through May 17 and during the 10 Year Anniversary.  Sales will be in Library the first 15 minutes of each block​. Make checks payable to B&N. Thank you for your help in this student generated activity!

  • Ten Year Anniversary Celebration

  • Important Yearbook Information

Remember to order your Timberwolve's yearbook before we run out! May 19th is the last day to order and we have a limited quantity: only 200 left!! Don't delay and order yours today. This yearbook is incredibly special considering it’s Tomahawks 10th anniversary.        

Steps on how to order your book:

  1. Visit: www.yearbookordercenter.com

  2. Use order number: 16702 (or select Tomahawk Creek Middle School from the drop down menu)

  3. Click "Yearbook" at the top of the screen

  4. Follow the instructions for ordering a book. A receipt of purchase will be emailed to you.

  • Message from the Library

    • The TCMS library would like to thank the school community for supporting our Spring Book Fair.  We were able to raise over $1,000 that will be used to purchase books and support library programs for our students.

  • Intramural Information

    • Basketball intramurals will begin on Monday, April 30 in the gym after school. To participate you must turn your intramural release and concussion forms into Mr. C. The intramural will be run open gym style and will be held Monday through Thursday. Please have your rides pick you up no later than 4:30 in the front of the school. See Mr. C if you have any questions.

    • Floor Hockey Intramurals will be held from May 7th to May 9th.  More dates may be added depending on interest level. If you wish to participate you need to fill out the intramural release and concussion form and return it to Mr. Widrick in room 805 by May 4th.

  • Panther Community Service

    • Doing any Spring cleaning over break?  Tired of your student's bookshelves being a mess or over flowing?  Now's your chance to help you and help others!

    • One of our cornerstones at TCMS is community service. The 7th grade Panther Team is supporting schools in our county that do not have the classroom resources that we at Tomahawk Creek are lucky to have, and we are collecting gently-used and new books to donate to classroom libraries at Falling Creek MS, Falling Creek ES, and Hopkins ES.

Remember to order your Timberwolve's yearbook before we run out! May 19th is the last day to order and we have a limited quantity: only 200 left!! Don't delay and order yours today. This yearbook is incredibly special considering it’s Tomahawks 10th anniversary.

  • Message from the Library

    • The TCMS library would like to thank the school community for supporting our Spring Book Fair.  We were able to raise over $1,000 that will be used to purchase books and support library programs for our students.

  • Panther Community Service

    • Doing any Spring cleaning over break?  Tired of your student's bookshelves being a mess or over flowing?  Now's your chance to help you and help others!

    • One of our cornerstones at TCMS is community service. The 7th grade Panther Team is supporting schools in our county that do not have the classroom resources that we at Tomahawk Creek are lucky to have, and we are collecting gently-used and new books to donate to classroom libraries at Falling Creek MS, Falling Creek ES, and Hopkins ES.

  • SCA Officer Information

    • Are you interested in a leadership role?  Are you interested in student government? Then you should apply to be a Student Council Association officer.  SCA applications and recommendation forms will be outside of Ms. Woodward’s door room 711 tomorrow morning. The president is a rising 8th grader, vice president is a rising 7th grader, and secretary, historian, and treasurer can be held by rising 7th or 8th grader.

    • Below is a message from our recycling Club. This is a student driven project they are completing for Earth Day!

    • On April 13, the beginnings of a statue made out of wire and aluminum has been put up. Some of our students are doing this project to show people who come by our school, the importance of recycling. Soon, this statue will be filled with aluminum cans that our school has brought in. Please continue to help fill him up by bringing in more cans. This will be greatly appreciated.

Cosby Color Guard Tryouts

For students that want to tryout for color guard please contact Mrs. Lopez before Thursday, April 12th at jenise_lopezperez@ccpsnet.net. Please email name, age and phone number. Also, tell your child to log in to google classroom and join mr46x9 for information about the guard website and tutorials. Please be advised that we will not be releasing students from school early for tryouts.

Scholastic Book Fair at TCMS Library

Scholastic Book Fair is at Tomahawk Creek this week.  Students in grades 6 and 7 will be making scheduled visits to the book fair with their English class.  Students in grade 8 may get a pass from their English teacher to purchase items from the fair.  Parents and students are invited to attend our family night on Tuesday, April 10th from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.  Local storyteller, Jeff Beatman, will be performing at 6:00 p.m. and 6:45 p.m.  Parents concerned about sending cash or checks to school with their students should check the school website for information on Scholastic e-wallet, where an online account can be created for your student to shop the book fair.  We also accept cash or checks payable to TCMS as forms of payment for book fair items.  Checks should be written for the amount of purchase, as we are not permitted to give cash back as change from any purchases made by check.  Thank you for your support of this library fundraiser!

    • There is a meeting for rising 8th graders that will be attending Cosby in the Fall and are interested in playing football. The meeting will be held on Monday, March 19th at 6:00 pm in the Commons at Cosby. Any current 8th grade student, who will be attending Cosby in the Fall that is interested in playing football is invited to attend the informational meeting with a parent.

    • Parents, beginning March 12, the front door will be unlocked for student entry at 7:30AM. The reason for this change is that we do not have adult supervision in side the building until that time. Please do not drop off your Timberwolf before 7:30AM. Your cooperation is appreciated.

    • The SCA will start their Pennies for Patients collection on March 5-30.  The mission of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. We will accept many types of donations:  coins, cash, check (made to LLS), and online donations.

    • Save the date for our Shamrock After School Bash which will be held from 3-5pm on Thursday, March 15th.  Tickets will be $5 and will include an obstacle course inflatable, snacks, and a DJ and photo booth.

  • Ronald McDonald House

    • As many of you may be aware, Tomahawk Creek's staff and students have been actively involved in outreach opportunities in our community.

    • This year alone, our Timberwolves have volunteered their time and resources to collect coats for children, and arrange a sock drive--collecting hundreds of socks for both adults and children! Joining in our  school-wide community service endeavours, several of Karen Colly’s students, who are in our Exceptional Education Program, will be donating their time and efforts serving our community via The Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Richmond, VA. Our students have decided on this particular this organization, as it serves as affordable housing for seriously ill children and their families while they are in Richmond receiving life-saving medical care. Students will travel to The Ronald McDonald House, where they will then prepare bagged lunches for all of the families who are staying in the home.

    • If you would like to support this newest addition to the ways in which please consider donating needed food items:

    • individually wrapped snack items such as: granola bars, goldfish, cheez its, cookies, peanut butter/cheese crackers etc, any type of snack cake like little debbie, or hostess... Just think items you would pack in your own lunch! If you would like to donate, that would be wonderful.

    • All donations should be sent to Mrs. Colly in room 617.

  • Attention all NJHS Students and Parents:

    • National Junior Honor Society T-shirt orders are due by Monday, March 5. Order forms are on Google Classroom or outside room 719. There are 2 student-created t-shirt designs. You can get 1 t-shirt for $12 or 2 for $20, cash only. All proceeds are going to the Red Cross. The t-shirts can be worn to all NJHS functions. Parents are encouraged to order as well if they want to support our kids.

  • Interact Club Meeting

    • Our next Interact meeting will be Thursday, March 8.  Please have your rides pick you up by 3:40.

Welcome to this week's edition of the TCMS Timberwolf Tip Sheet, a weekly newsletter to help keep parents informed about what is going on around Tomahawk Creek MS. Every Thursday we will send out this informational e-mail to help communicate the great things going on here at Tomahawk Creek MS.   • Harriet Tubman Presentation

    • The TCMS Library is pleased to announce that we will be sponsoring Harriet Tubman:  A Living History Interpretation performed by Charmaine Crowell-White on Wednesday, February 21st at 7:00 p.m. in the TCMS library. If you are newer to the TCMS staff, Charmaine is a former colleague and a gifted storyteller who makes history come alive for her audience.  Admission to this event is free for students, staff, and families.  The performance will be followed by a brief light reception.

  • Girls Soccer Tryouts

    • Girls interested in trying out for Tomahawk Creek’s Girls Soccer Team need to pick up an informational flyer outside of room 707.  Tryouts for all grade levels will start Tuesday, February 27th from 3:00 pm until 4:30pm.  Athletic Physical and Concussion forms must be turned into the main office no later than February 23rd in order to try out.

  • High School Spring Sports

    • Please remember that students CANNOT be released early from school for tryouts or practices for high school sports. We have communicated this with both Cosby and Midlothian high schools, and their coaches are aware. We do excuse early dismissals for games or matches, but nor practices or tryouts. 

  • Drama Club Information

    • Drama Club has had to make some date changes due to schedule conflicts.  The Wednesday, Feb. 21st meeting has been moved to THURSDAY March 1st. It will be from 3:00 until 4:30.  There will NOT be a meeting Wed.,  Feb. 21st.  The Wednesday, March 21st meeting has been moved to Thursday, March 29th.  There will NOT be a meeting Wed., March 21st.  Please plan accordingly. These changes have been posted on Google Classroom.  The code is posted on the auditorium doors.

  • TCMS Celebrates Black History Month

    • The TCMS Library will participate in the national African American Read-In on February 23rd as part of our Black History Month celebration.  This year our group will be reading the novel Ghost by Jason Reynolds.  We have room for 35 participants.  Registration is free.  Materials are provided for students, and space is available on a first-come, first-serve basis.  Interested students should see Mrs. Mashburn or Ms. Woodroof in the library for more information and a registration form.

  • Cosby Lacrosse Information

    • Rising 9th grade boys :If you are interested in tryout for Cosby JV Lacrosse come to the main office to get a flyer.

    • In addition to accessing your child’s class information, parents have the ability to correct phone/emails  currently in our student information system.  Please take a few minutes to review your information under the My Account tab in ParentVUE and make any necessary corrections.  This information is how you are contacted by your child’s teachers and our SchoolMessenger alerts.

    • You and your son(s) are invited to join us every Thursday night from 6 - 7:15 pm in room 101 at TCMS for our weekly Boys to Men meeting.

    • The Boys to Men Program is a mentoring program for young men. Our meetings provide a safe place for boys to talk about what is going on in their daily lives and how our mentors may support their needs.

    • If you are interested in finding out more about our program, join us Thursday night!

  • PTA News

    • Last week was a big one for the PTA!  We celebrated our CORE Values students at a reception on Wednesday, where our superintendent, Dr. Lane, gave sage advice to our exemplary students.  A big thank you goes out to Debbie Lewis and her committee for planning the event. We were able to meet quorum at Thursday's PTA meeting to reallocate funds for a sustainable budget this year.  We also had a record attending 7th grade Sky Zone party on Friday evening.  Thanks to Amy Johnson, Missy Radtke and her volunteers for making this a memorable event for all! We were able to collect Sharpies for the teachers to provide them with a Valentine treat from the PTA. Thanks to Kristie Locke for putting the treats together and all who sent in the markers!

    • Here's what's ahead:

    • The next PTA meeting on Thursday, 3/8 at 7pm in the library. We have opportunities to help with teacher appreciation week in early May and the 8th grade dance on May 19th. We also have a nominating committee for next year's board.  Come out to help us finish this year strong.

    • Save the date for our Shamrock After School Bash which will be held from 3-5pm on Thursday, March 15th.  Tickets will be $5 and will include an obstacle course inflatable, snacks, and a DJ.  We are in the process of organizing it now, so please be on the lookout for a Sign Up Genius to help with ticket sales and chaperoning.

    • Hey, TCMS...What Inspires You?  The 2018 Doodle 4 Google Art contest is underway!  If you are interested, please take a drawing sheet from the bulletin board in the main hallway by the bus loop or go to room 108 and ask Ms. Moriarty for one during 5th block.  All entries must include a google logo drawing that depicts the things that inspire you, an artist statement, the entire form filled out and a parent signature.  Please return all completed entries to Ms. Moriarty’s art room 108 by Friday, February 16.  Feel free to come in to art for 5th block to work on one!

  • Lost and Found Items

    • As we do every 9 weeks, there are many items that have been accumulated in the Lost and Found in each grade level locker pod. If you are missing something, have your Timberwolf check the lost and found. We will donate unclaimed items after the second semester begins.

  • Rising 9th Grade Scheduling

    • Counselors from Midlothian and Cosby visited with 8th grade students this week to discuss scheduling options for high school and choose elective courses for 9th grade. Please check with your child if you have not already seen this course selection sheet. Yellow forms should be signed and returned to your child’s math teacher this week. Please keep the pink/blue sheet at home for your records. If you have questions regarding your child’s class selection please contact your child’s school counselor.

  • 7th Grade Skyzone Party

    • 7th graders there will be a fun filled night at Sky Zone on Feb. 9th. The tickets sales will begin on Feb 2-6 during lunchtimes. We will also be selling spirit wear.  The spirit wear forms will be due by Jan. 26. Hope to see you at Sky Zone.

  • Interact Club Information

    • Our next Interact meeting will be February 8th.  We will be creating Valentine bags for our custodians and bus drivers.  Please be picked up no later than 3:45.

  • Aluminum Recycling Project

    • The TCMS Science students have begun an aluminum recycling awareness project that will involve bringing in as many aluminum cans from home as possible. Collection has begun and will run through the end of spring break. Students should bring the cans to their respective science teachers. If a large number of cans is being sent in please notify your child's teacher so arrangements can be made to receive them. This project pits team vs team for totals collected. An art/construction project is being developed which will serve to enhance awareness of the need to continue our recycling efforts. Thank you for your cooperation

  • Pop Top Collection

    • The seventh grade cougar team is collecting pop tops for the Richmond Ronald McDonald House.  These are the little tabs you pull to open soda, soup or other aluminum cans. If you would like to donate, please collect your pop tops in clear ziploc bags.  When the bags are full, students can bring them to Ms. Puma (room 703) or Ms. Woodward (room 711).  Thank you.

  • Interact Club

    • The Interact Club will be starting our annual FEED 23112 food drive.  It will run from January 16-29.  FEED 23112 has a trailer in the parking lot of Clover Hill High School that serves many families locally that are in need of our help.  They need canned food, boxed pastas, breakfast items, toilet paper and toiletry items.  There will be boxes located in the main hallway by the bus loop to drop off all items.  Thank you for your support!

    • Care to make a scene?  With our fall play finished, our first Drama Club meeting will be next Wednesday, January 31st, from 3:00 to 4:15 in the theater.  We will meet monthly to play theater games, do some improv, and put together short scenes.     • The TCMS Science students have begun an aluminum recycling awareness project that will involve bringing in as many aluminum cans from home as possible. Collection has begun and will run through the end of spring break. Students should bring the cans to their respective science teachers. If a large number of cans is being sent in please notify your child's teacher so arrangements can be made to receive them. This project pits team vs team for totals collected. An art/construction project is being developed which will serve to enhance awareness of the need to continue our recycling efforts. Thank you for your cooperation

  • Pop Top Collection

    • The seventh grade cougar team is collecting pop tops for the Richmond Ronald McDonald House.  These are the little tabs you pull to open soda, soup or other aluminum cans. If you would like to donate, please collect your pop tops in clear ziploc bags.  When the bags are full, students can bring them to Ms. Puma (room 703) or Ms. Woodward (room 711).  Thank you.

  • Interact Club

    • The Interact Club will be starting our annual FEED 23112 food drive.  It will run from January 16-29.  FEED 23112 has a trailer in the parking lot of Clover Hill High School that serves many families locally that are in need of our help.  They need canned food, boxed pastas, breakfast items, toilet paper and toiletry items.  There will be boxes located in the main hallway by the bus loop to drop off all items.  Thank you for your support!

  • 7th Grade Skyzone Party

    • 7th graders there will be a fun filled night at Sky Zone on Feb. 9th. The tickets sales will begin on Feb 2-6 during lunchtimes. We will also be selling spirit wear.  The spirit wear forms will be due by Jan. 26. Hope to see you at Sky Zone.

  • SCA Fundraiser Volunteers

    • The SCA is in need of volunteers to help with the Valentine's Day fundraiser during lunches from Friday, February 2nd - Friday, February 9th.  SCA class representatives will be selling stuffed animals that will be delivered to students on Valentine's Day and an adult is needed to supervise the students who are collecting money.

    • There will be no Tip Sheet next Thursday, as we prepare for the Winter Break. The next edition of the Tip Sheet will be January 4, 2018.

  • SCA Toys for Tots Drive

    • Today is the LAST DAY for our Toys for Tots drive! The mission of the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during November and December each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to less fortunate children in the community.  Their goal is to send a message of hope to less fortunate youngsters that will assist them in becoming responsible, productive, and patriotic citizens.  Please help us fill our boxes. You can drop off toys until 3:30!

  • Active Parenting of Tweens and Teens Class

    • This five-week class is designed for parents of middle schoolers (ages 10-15), that emphasizes understanding
      teenage development, improving the parent-child relationship, reducing conflicts and setting limits.
      The goal is to reduce stress and conflict between the child and the parent while promoting a well-adjusted
      adolescent. Participants have ample time for practicing skills and discussing their concerns. A parent-resource
      manual is provided. A flyer is attached.

We want to thank Donald DeLegge for his service to the school over the past few years in the role of our Vice President. Unfortunately, he had to resign due to his work. November's meeting did not make quorum so we took an executive and committee board vote to instate Steve Accardi as our new Vice President. We are appreciative of his willingness to step in this year!

  • SCA Toys for Tots Drive

    • Our Toys for Tots Drive has started and will end December 8th.  Boxes will be around the building, and boxes will always be by the bus loop doors.  The mission of the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during November and December each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to less fortunate children in the community.  Their goal is to send a message of hope to less fortunate youngsters that will assist them in becoming responsible, productive, and patriotic citizens.  Please help us fill our boxes.

  • Interact Club Christmas Mother Book Drive

    • The Interact Club will begin their annual Christmas Mother Book Drive starting November 20th and ending December 4th.  This year Christmas Mother plans to serve over 5,000 in the Chesterfield County and Colonial Heights area. Their goal is to provide three new books to each child.  Please help support the Interact Club by bringing in brand new books.  There will be a collection box/bag in every classroom.  Thank you!

    • The seventh grade cougar team is collecting pop tops for the Richmond Ronald McDonald House.  These are the little tabs you pull to open soda, soup or other aluminum cans. If you would like to donate, please collect your pop tops in clear ziploc bags.  When the bags are full, students can bring them to Ms. Puma (room 703) or Ms. Woodward (room 711).  Thank you.

    • Boys Basketball will have tryouts for all grades Wednesday November 8th thru Friday November 10th from 3:00 - 5:00pm.  All players must have an up to date physical and signed concussion form in order to participate in the tryouts.  Cuts will be made after each tryout.  Cross Country runners will be allowed to tryout after their practices are over and/or their seasons is complete.

    • This year, Parent-Teacher Conference day is Monday, November 6, from 9AM until 5PM. More information will be coming out next week, including how to sign up for a conference with your students team of teachers.

During this CLASS there are many important and REQUIRED lessons and presentations. Please do not check your student out from this class.   • Maker Party

    • Join us October 24 from 6:00 - 7:30 for our 3rd annual TCMS Maker Party. Parents and students are invited to explore some of our Wolf Den activities and see what students are doing.  

  • SCA Christmas Mother Sock Drive

    • There are a few days left for the Christmas Mother Sock drive, and their goal is no person in our community is without clothing as we celebrate the holidays.  Please send in socks to your child’s first block even class.  The sock drive ends on October 18th.  Thanks so much for your support!

  • Fifth Block Class

    • Parents, this is just a reminder that fifth block is an ACADEMIC PERIOD. Students are expected to attend this class just as they would any other class. During this CLASS there are many important and REQUIRED lessons and presentations. Please do not check your student out from this class. Students will NOT be allowed to check out early for sports practices of any kind, including high school.

  • ParentVue Information

    • Did you know?

    • In addition to accessing your child’s class information, parents have the ability to correct phone/emails  currently in our student information system.  Please take a few minutes to review your information under the My Account tab in ParentVUE and make any necessary corrections.  This information is how you are contacted by your child’s teachers and our SchoolMessenger alerts.  NOTE:  parents cannot change addresses.  Please contact Mrs. Malone for further instructions to change your address.

  • Veterans Day Assembly

    • Tomahawk Creek will hold our annual Veterans Day Assembly on Thursday, November 9th at 10 am in the auditorium. We invite any past or present military members to join us as we honor those who have served or our currently serving in the U.S. Armed Forces. We will have a reception for our military personnel and their Timberwolf in the library after the ceremony.

    • The SCA’s Christmas Mother Sock drive started this week.  Your SCA class representative can answer all your questions.  The drive will end October 18th.  The 8th Grade is collecting baby socks, 7th Grade- adult socks, and 6th Grade- youth socks.  Please start bringing the socks in.  The Christmas Mother is counting on us.

    • Please save your Box Tops for Education! We need as many as we can get! Have your Timberwolf turn them in to their science teacher!

  • Catherines Fight

    • A huge thank you to our Timberwolf family for supporting our annual cancer awareness game! We will have a grand total closer to the actual event, but the support our community gives is tremendous!

    • This year we are again participating in the Gallup Student Survey on School Climate. Attached is a letter explaining the process. We will conduct the survey during the first 10 minutes of fifth block Monday, October 2. This survey provides us with important information moving forward as we continue to make TCMS the best school it can be.

    • Join us in the library Tuesday, October 3 for our first Ted Talk Tuesday!  We will watch and discuss a Ted Talk given by 2 sisters.  This is open to the first 50 students per lunch.  Bring your Lunch from home because you will not have time to go to the cafeteria.

  • Catherine’s Fight Blood Drive

    • We have a student here at TCMS that is battling Acute Myeloid Leukemia. A blood drive is being organized at Clover Hill High School to support this student and her family. The event will take place on Thursday, September 28th from 3:30- 7:30 in the CHHS Forum. This drive is going to be taking place during a Cosby vs. Clover Hill game. The signup link is here and sign ups are encouraged.

  • Fundraiser News

    • Congratulations on an extremely successful fundraiser! We have already surpassed last year's total with online orders alone. All order forms and money are currently being processed by Great American and we will see where we stand with those in a couple of weeks. Please add Friday, November 3rd to your calendar as pick-up day if your child had a large amount of orders placed. All online orders will be delivered directly to the customers but any orders that were sent to school will need to be picked up by 4:00 that day.

  • TCVSP

    • Any student who completed community service hours from June 1st until Sept. 28th for the TCSVP program should turn in their completed TCSVP form to his or her Social Studies teacher by Friday, September 29th. Please remember if your child is also turning in NJHS hours later, they will need to make a copy of the form before turning the form in to the school. Social Studies teachers will not make copies of the log for students. A TCSVP/NJHS log is attached.

  • Interact Club

    • Interact Members-The sign up is now available for the Purple Pinkie Project at Westchester Commons.  Please read the details before you sign up.

  • TCMS Spirit Night

    • Tomahawk Creek will have a Spirit Night at Chick-Fil-A (Winterpock location--in front of Lowe's on Hull Street) on Thursday, September 28th from 5-8pm. Remember to mention TCMS when ordering. Thank you in advance for your support.

  • PTA News

    • Thanks to all who participated in the Denim Drive.  We are glad that our school participated in this annual event which supports unprivileged children in our area and region.

    • It's not too late to join the PTA and give to the FunDrive to support our amazing staff and students!  Please join online at tcmspta.com.  

    • National PTA Reflections contest is themed  "Within Reach". Look for details coming from English and Fine Arts teachers. All submissions are due to TCMS by Monday, 10/30. See the flier on our Facebook page.

    • The 6th grade Neon party will be held on Friday, October 13th from 7-9 pm.  We will have a DJ, photo booth, karaoke, pizza, and snacks.  Tickets are $10.  A flyer is going home where you can pre-order your tickets and t-shirts for the event.  Tickets can also be purchased during the 6th grade lunch blocks from Tuesday through Thursday, October 3-5  from 11-12pm.  You can't purchase on the night of the dance so make sure you get your tickets while you can!  Come out to meet new friends and glow!

    • It is time for the REFLECTIONS Contest!  The theme this year is “Within Reach.”  Deadline for entries is Monday, October 30th.  Check out this short video for information and ideas!

  • James River HS Field Hockey Clinic

    • James River High School Field Hockey wants to spread the love of field hockey and help raise money for HURRICANE RELIEF.

    • We will be hosting a Field Hockey Academy for girls in grades 3-8 to introduce and develop the ​game​ of field hockey​ in our county schools​. Since all middle schools feed into high school sports, we are hoping you will share this flyer with your school community via email or parent link. The event will take place from 9 am-12 pm on Saturday, October 21st at James River High School. The academy will be run in conjunction with our Annual Flea Market/Yard Sale and River Grill. Girls can register by October 8th and pay online with the link at the bottom of the flyer. They will receive a FREE t-shirt and BBQ lunch.   • TCVSP

  • New Attendance Policy

    • This year, the county has altered its policy in regards to unexcused absences. Below is a brief summary of the policy:

      • 5 unexcused absences:

        • Parent contacted

        • Attendance plan created

      • 6 unexcused absences

        • Attendance conference with parents

      • 7 unexcused absences

        • County attendance office notified

        • Juvenile and Domestic Courts notified

    • This applies only to UNEXCUSED absences.

  • Chromebook Chargers

    • Your Timberwolf will be issued a Chromebook charger in September with their Chromebook. They will not receive another one. If the charger is lost, you are responsible for replacing it, the county will no longer replace them.

    • Chromebooks and chargers will be collected in December and new Chromebooks and chargers will be issued in January.

  • PTA News

    • Join the PTA online at tcmspta.com. We want to make 100% of our membership goal again this year. (Add attachment from Karin)

    • Denim Drive goes through this Friday. Bring in your denim and drop it off in bins by the office or at LC Bird from 9-3 this Sat and Sun. The top 3 schools get monetary prizes!

    • Is your Timberwolf interested in trying out for our school play?  Auditions for It’s a Wonderful Life begin next week on Wednesday, September 20th for last names A-L and Thursday, September 21st for last names M-Z from 3:00 to 6:00 both days.  ALL auditionees should attend Friday, September 22nd

    • from 3:00 until 6:30, and those we need to see again will need to attend Monday, September 25th from 3:00 to 7:00.  The REQUIRED permission slip is available in the office and room 106.

  • Volleyball Intramurals

    • There will be an informational meeting for volleyball intramurals on Monday September 18th in room 207/208 (fitness room).  Rides need to pick you up by 3:15 in the front of the building.  See Mrs. Widrick if you have any questions.

  • Boy’s Soccer Tryouts

    • Try-outs for the TCMS boys’ soccer team for this upcoming 2017 fall season, are as follows:

      • 8th grade BOYS' SOCCER TEAM tryouts will be after school this coming Monday and Tuesday, September 11 and 12.

      • 7th grade BOYS' SOCCER TEAM tryouts will be after school next Wednesday and Thursday, September 13 and 14.

      • And 6th grade BOYS' SOCCER TEAM tryouts will be after school next Friday and the following Monday, September 15 and 18.  

    • All players should immediately report to room 809 after school on their first assigned tryout day BEFORE reporting to the locker room.

    • Rides should be arranged for players to be picked up by 4:30 at the bus loop.

    • No player will be allowed to participate in tryouts unless all required VHSL forms are accounted for. Copies of these forms are located in the office, with Coach Smith in room 809, or on our school website .

  • New Attendance Policy

    • This year, the county has altered its policy in regards to unexcused absences. Below is a brief summary of the policy:

      • 5 unexcused absences:

        • Parent contacted

        • Attendance plan created

      • 6 unexcused absences

        • Attendance conference with parents

      • 7 unexcused absences

        • County attendance office notified

        • Juvenile and Domestic Courts notified

    • This applies only to UNEXCUSED absences.

  • Chromebook Chargers

    • Your Timberwolf will be issued a Chromebook charger in September with their Chromebook. They will not receive another one. If the charger is lost, you are responsible for replacing it, the county will no longer replace them.

    • Chromebooks and chargers will be collected in December and new Chromebooks and chargers will be issued in January.

    • Denim Drive

      • This year, TCMS is participating in the regional wide Denim Drive. There will be bins located in the front office. Please donate your gently used denim items. The top three schools in the region will receive a cash prize!

Welcome to this week's edition of the TCMS Timberwolf Tip Sheet, a weekly newsletter to help keep parents informed about what is going on around Tomahawk Creek MS. Every Thursday we will send out this informational e-mail to help communicate the great things going on here at Tomahawk Creek MS. Each week, we will send out an electronic newsletter with information and important events and dates for parents.   • ParentVue Information

    • A strong partnership between teachers and parents helps increase the chances of a student’s success.  Chesterfield County Public Schools remains committed to engaging and involving middle and high school parents in their children’s education through effective two-way communication.

    • ParentVUE is a web-based tool and a mobile application available from the iTunes store and the Google Play store that allows parents to monitor their child’s academic progress, attendance, classwork and grades.  In addition, this feature allows for online communication between home and school.

    • If you have questions about ParentVUE, or need to obtain your ParentVUE Activation Code, please contact Mrs. Malone at 378-7120, extension 7210, or email Deborah_Malone@ccpsnet.net.

    • In addition to accessing your child’s class information, parents have the ability to correct phone/email information currently in our student information system.  Please take a few minutes to review your information under the My Account tab in ParentVUE and make any necessary corrections.  NOTE:  parents cannot change addresses.  Please contact Mrs. Malone for further instructions to change your address.

  • Interact Club Information

    • Our first Interact Meeting will be September 14th from 3 to 3:45 in room 716.  For those new to TCMS, the Interact Club is a service organization affiliated with Rotary.  We meet, on average, the second Thursday of the month after school.

  • School Fundraiser

    • We will begin our annual Great American Fundraiser in one week.  This campaign allows us to fund many student programs and activities during the year.  We thank you in advance for your support.

    • We want to get an early start and ask you to help our school by taking advantage of our online store.  Students who have registered and have at least one online order sold during this next week will earn a prize at our kickoff assembly on September 12th, 2017."

    • Auditions for the TCMS Boys Chorus will be held next Tuesday, September 12 from 7:30 AM until 8:15 AM in the Chorus Room.  Boys Chorus is open to ANY boy at TCMS.  You do not have to already be in regular chorus to audition.

  • TCMS Tech Club

    • TCMS Tech Club will have an informational meeting September 13 at 7:45am in the library.  See Ms. Woodroof if you are unable to make it to the Informational Meeting.

  • Girl’s Basketball

    • Girls basketball tryouts will start on Monday, September 11th

    • from 3:00pm until 4:45pm for all grade levels.  You must have a completed physical in order to try out.  Please see Mrs. Clark in room 707 for more information.

  • Timberwolves Unleashed Book Trivia

    • Do you love to read?  There will be a Timberwolves Unleashed Book Trivia Contest informational meeting on Thursday, September 14th at 7:45 a.m. in the library.  Join us to learn more about participating in this fall book trivia competition.

    • There will be a meeting for anyone interested in participating in the tennis intramural on Wednesday, Sept. 13th at 3:00 in Mr. Porter's room (813). Participants should be picked up in the front of the school by 3:30.

    • We will have our annual sports physicals Thursday, September 7th right after school. Please note that this is a CHANGE from last week’s newsletter. The cost is $35.

  • Schedule Pick Up

    • Students of parents who could not attend Back to School nights will be issued their schedules in the first day of school. We have a plan in place and students should receive their schedules and be in first period very quickly.

  • Back to School NIghts

    • Our Back to School NIghts will be next week. Sixth grade will be on Tuesday, August 29th. Seventh and eighth grade Back to School NIght will be Wednesday, August 30th. The schedule for both nights is below:

      • 4:00-5:40-Schedule pick up. Parents and students can pick up their schedules and determine fees to be paid.

      • 5:45-6:15-Back to School Night presentation in the auditorium. Information on the upcoming school year will be presented.

      • 6:15-7:00-Back to School Night Open House. Parents may BRIEFLY meet with their students teachers for the upcoming school year.

      • 6:15-7:00-Schedule pick up. Parents and students can pick up their schedules and determine fees to be paid.

    • Students of parents who cannot cannot attend Back to School nights will be issued their schedules in the first day of school.

  • Fees Payment

    • This year, we are STRONGLY encouraging parents to pay fees online at http://osp.osmsinc.com/chesterfieldva. You can also send in a check on the SECOND day of school.

    • We will have a fees day on Thursday, August 31st, but we will have limited staff available to take fees that day.
