Welcome to this week's edition of the TCMS Timberwolf Tip Sheet, a weekly newsletter to help keep parents informed about what is going on around Tomahawk Creek MS. Every Thursday we will send out this informational e-mail to help communicate the great things going on here at Tomahawk Creek MS. Each week, we will send out an electronic newsletter with information and important events and dates for parents. Please take a few minutes each week to read the newsletter so that you can stay informed about all the happenings at TCMS.

  • SCA Toys for Tots Drive

    • Our Toys for Tots Drive has started and will end December 8th.  Boxes will be around the building, and boxes will always be by the bus loop doors.  The mission of the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during November and December each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to less fortunate children in the community.  Their goal is to send a message of hope to less fortunate youngsters that will assist them in becoming responsible, productive, and patriotic citizens.  Please help us fill our boxes.

  • Our Digital Footprint

  • New YouTube Channel

    • We have consolidated our YouTube channels to eliminate some confusion. The new channel can be found HERE.  

  • Lost and Found

    • Please have your Timberwolf check the lost and found areas near the cafeteria and near the administrators offices for any items they may have lost. We will donate any items not claimed to charity in the near future.

  • Interact Club Meeting

    • The next Interact meeting will be November 16th after school in room 716.  We will be preparing the the Christmas Mother Book Drive.  All members are asked to bring a new book (new books only) to the meeting.  See Google Classroom for more information to include the types of books that are most requested.

  • TCMS Spirit Wear

    • TCMS Spiritwear order forms have been handed out to your student.  If you would like to order any items the deadline has been extended until November 17.  These make great Christmas gifts!

  • ParentVue Information

    • Did you know?

    • In addition to accessing your child’s class information, parents have the ability to correct phone/emails  currently in our student information system.  Please take a few minutes to review your information under the My Account tab in ParentVUE and make any necessary corrections.  This information is how you are contacted by your child’s teachers and our SchoolMessenger alerts.  NOTE:  parents cannot change addresses.  Please contact Mrs. Malone for further instructions to change your address.

    • YEARBOOK : Please place an order for the TCMS 10th Anniversary Yearbook online using the website www.yearbookordercenter.com and the TCMS school code: 16702.

    • YEARBOOK 8th grade ads: If you are the parent/guardian of an 8th grade student at TCMS, please consider placing a "senior" ad in the yearbook. Ads are 1/8 of a page, cost $35.00, and can be designed online at www.yearbookordercenter.com, school code: 16702.  If you have any questions/concerns about the ad process, please email Laura Carey at lauraa_carey@ccpsnet.net

  • Boys to Men

    • Attention all parents with sons:

    • You and your son(s) are invited to join us every Thursday night from 6 - 7:15 pm in room 101 at TCMS for our weekly Boys to Men meeting.

    • The Boys to Men Program is a mentoring program for young men. Our meetings provide a safe place for boys to talk about what is going on in their daily lives and how our mentors may support their needs.

    • If you are interested in finding out more about our program, join us Thursday night!

  • Elevator

    • Parents, please remind your Timberwolf that no one can use the elevator unless they have permission from the administration.

  • PTA News

    • It's not too late to join the PTA and support the Stress Free Fundraiser!  Go to tcmspta.com. We are only a fraction of our way to our goal to be able to fund our students' dances and teachers' appreciation, so please sign up today!

    • Come out to the November PTA meeting, tonight, Thursday, November 9th from 7-8pm in the library. We are still in need of chairpersons for the After School Bash in March and the 8th grade dance and fun day in May/ June. Please let Suzanne Snyder know if you are interested at tcmspta@gmail.com. This will be our last meeting in 2017.

    • The breakfast for students participating in the Reflections contest will be held at 7:30am in November 17th. We look forward to celebrating what our Timberwolves created this year!

    • It's been a busy week!  Your PTA funds provided lunch from Firehouse Subs to the teachers for their workday on Tuesday. Thanks to all who helped with the PTA sponsored Veterans' Day luncheon today.  We salute our Timberwolf Veterans!

  • Great American Fundraising Pick Up

    • Great American fundraiser items will be available for pick up on Wednesday, November 8th. Please plan on coming to school that day if your child has a large order...we will be here until 4pm. If your child sold items online, all items will be sent directly to the customer.  Any prizes earned will also be available for pick up that day.     • The Debate Club will meet on THURSDAY, November 9 next week instead of Monday. The meeting will be held in room 816 at 7:30 a.m.

  • Veterans Day Assembly

    • Tomahawk Creek will hold our annual Veterans Day Assembly on Thursday, November 9th at 10 amin the auditorium. We invite any past or present military members to join us as we honor those who have served or our currently serving in the U.S. Armed Forces. We will have a reception for our military personnel and their Timberwolf in the library after the ceremony.

  • Intramurals Information

    • Flag Football Intramurals - PICK UP FLYER in front office for details - First session will be Wednesday Nov. 8.   See Mr. Robertson for more Info!!

    • A huge thank you to our Timberwolf family for supporting our annual cancer awareness game! We will have a grand total closer to the actual event, but the support our community gives is tremendous!

  • Boys Basketball Try OUts

    • Boys Basketball will have tryouts for all grades Wednesday November 8th thru Friday November 10th from 3:00 - 5:00pm.  All players must have an up to date physical and signed concussion form in order to participate in the tryouts.  Cuts will be made after each tryout.  Cross Country runners will be allowed to tryout after their practices are over and/or their seasons is complete.

  • Parent-Teacher Conference Day

    • This year, Parent-Teacher Conference day is Monday, November 6, from 9AM until 5PM. More information will be coming out next week, including how to sign up for a conference with your students team of teachers.

  • Maker Party

    • Join us October 24 from 6:00 - 7:30 for our 3rd annual TCMS Maker Party. Parents and students are invited to explore some of our Wolf Den activities and see what students are doing.  

  • Writing Club

    • Are you interested in joining the TCMS Writing Club?  If so, come to an informational meeting this Friday during 5th block in the library.  Passes are available in the library for interested students.

  • Fifth Block Class

    • Parents, this is just a reminder that fifth block is an ACADEMIC PERIOD. Students are expected to attend this class just as they would any other class. During this CLASS there are many important and REQUIRED lessons and presentations. Please do not check your student out from this class. Students will NOT be allowed to check out early for sports practices of any kind, including high school.

      • As a reminder on Monday we will launch RED RIBBON CAMPAIGN WEEK. Wear your red in support to remain drug free.  During FIRST Block you will receive a pledge card – stop by the PTA Red Ribbon table during lunch, show us your card and receive a treat.  Also please take a moment to sign our TCMS Red Ribbon Commitment Pledge.

      • Red Ribbon Week is a reminder that you are strong enough to make the right decision.  Take the opportunity this week to talk with your peers, teachers and your parents about what is going on in your HEAD. You are responsible for your life and actions  - strive to make a good decision.

    • It's not too late to join the PTA and support the Stress Free Fundraiser!  We are only at 27% of our goal. This is a CRITICAL fundraiser for our PTA. Please help us help TCMS! Go to tcmspta.com to sign up today.

    • Our annual Cancer Awareness game will be on Oct 26th. Proceeds will go to one of our own Timberwolves, Catherine Muir. We will be selling t-shirts from Oct 2 to Oct 11 in support of Catherine's fight. Order forms coming home on Friday. In addition, we are raffling off 50+ pairs of crazy socks that match Catherine's fight colors. Raffle tickets cost 25 cents and you may enter as many times as you wish.  Purchase raffle tickets in the cafeteria. TCMS knows that NO ONE FIGHTS ALONE!

    • T-shirts to support Catherine’s Fight are now on sale.   Come to room 805 to place your order.  Sales will continue through Oct 11.   Socks that match Catherine’s fight colors will be raffled off at lunch.   It only cost 25 cents to enter the raffle.

    • This year we are again participating in the Gallup Student Survey on School Climate. Attached is a letter explaining the process.     • Parents, this is just a reminder that fifth block is an ACADEMIC PERIOD. Students are expected to attend this class just as they would any other class. During this CLASS there are many important and REQUIRED lessons and presentations. Please do not check your student out from this class.   • SCA Christmas Mother Sock Drive

    • The SCA’s Christmas Mother Sock drive started this week.  Your SCA class representative can answer all your questions.  The drive will end October 18th.  The 8th Grade is collecting baby socks, 7th Grade- adult socks, and 6th Grade- youth socks.  Please start bringing the socks in.  The Christmas Mother is counting on us.

  • Ted Talk Tuesday

    • Join us in the library Tuesday, October 3 for our first Ted Talk Tuesday!  We will watch and discuss a Ted Talk given by 2 sisters.  This is open to the first 50 students per lunch.  Bring your Lunch from home because you will not have time to go to the cafeteria.

  • Cancer Awareness Game

    • Our annual Cancer Awareness game will be on Oct 26th. Proceeds will go to one of our own Timberwolves, Catherine Muir. We will be selling t-shirts from Oct 2 to Oct 11 in support of Catherine's fight. Order forms coming home on Friday. In addition, we are raffling off 50+ pairs of crazy socks that match Catherine's fight colors. Raffle tickets cost 25 cents and you may enter as many times as you wish.  Purchase raffle tickets in the cafeteria.

  • Fundraiser News

    • Congratulations on an extremely successful fundraiser! We have already surpassed last year's total with online orders alone. All order forms and money are currently being processed by Great American and we will see where we stand with those in a couple of weeks. Please add Friday, November 3rd to your calendar as pick-up day if your child had a large amount of orders placed. All online orders will be delivered directly to the customers but any orders that were sent to school will need to be picked up by 4:00 that day.

  • TCVSP

    • Any student who completed community service hours from June 1st until Sept. 28th for the TCSVP program should turn in their completed TCSVP form to his or her Social Studies teacher by Friday, September 29th. Please remember if your child is also turning in NJHS hours later, they will need to make a copy of the form before turning the form in to the school. Social Studies teachers will not make copies of the log for students. A TCSVP/NJHS log is attached.

  • Interact Club

    • Interact Members-The sign up is now available for the Purple Pinkie Project at Westchester Commons.  Please read the details before you sign up.

  • TCMS Spirit Night

    • Tomahawk Creek will have a Spirit Night at Chick-Fil-A (Winterpock location--in front of Lowe's on Hull Street) on Thursday, September 28th from 5-8pm. Remember to mention TCMS when ordering. Thank you in advance for your support.

    • Thanks to all who participated in the Denim Drive.  We are glad that our school participated in this annual event which supports unprivileged children in our area and region.

    • National PTA Reflections contest is themed  "Within Reach". Look for details coming from English and Fine Arts teachers. All submissions are due to TCMS by Monday, 10/30. See the flier on our Facebook page.

    • The 6th grade Neon party will be held on Friday, October 13th from 7-9 pm.  We will have a DJ, photo booth, karaoke, pizza, and snacks.  Tickets are $10.  A flyer is going home where you can pre-order your tickets and t-shirts for the event.  Tickets can also be purchased during the 6th grade lunch blocks from Tuesday through Thursday, October 3-5  from 11-12pm.  You can't purchase on the night of the dance so make sure you get your tickets while you can!  Come out to meet new friends and glow!

  • James River HS Field Hockey Clinic

    • James River High School Field Hockey wants to spread the love of field hockey and help raise money for HURRICANE RELIEF.

    • We will be hosting a Field Hockey Academy for girls in grades 3-8 to introduce and develop the ​game​ of field hockey​ in our county schools​. Since all middle schools feed into high school sports, we are hoping you will share this flyer with your school community via email or parent link. The event will take place from 9 am-12 pm on Saturday, October 21st at James River High School. The academy will be run in conjunction with our Annual Flea Market/Yard Sale and River Grill. Girls can register by October 8th and pay online with the link at the bottom of the flyer. They will receive a FREE t-shirt and BBQ lunch.   • TCVSP

    • Your Timberwolf will be issued a Chromebook charger in September with their Chromebook. They will not receive another one. If the charger is lost, you are responsible for replacing it, the county will no longer replace them.

    • Chromebooks and chargers will be collected in December and new Chromebooks and chargers will be issued in January.

    • Is your Timberwolf interested in trying out for our school play?  Auditions for It’s a Wonderful Life begin next week on Wednesday, September 20th for last names A-L and Thursday, September 21st for last names M-Z from 3:00 to 6:00 both days.  ALL auditionees should attend Friday, September 22nd

    • from 3:00 until 6:30, and those we need to see again will need to attend Monday, September 25th from 3:00 to 7:00.  The REQUIRED permission slip is available in the office and room 106.

    • Try-outs for the TCMS boys’ soccer team for this upcoming 2017 fall season, are as follows:

      • 8th grade BOYS' SOCCER TEAM tryouts will be after school this coming Monday and Tuesday, September 11 and 12.

  • ParentVue Information

    • A strong partnership between teachers and parents helps increase the chances of a student’s success.  Chesterfield County Public Schools remains committed to engaging and involving middle and high school parents in their children’s education through effective two-way communication.

    • ParentVUE is a web-based tool and a mobile application available from the iTunes store and the Google Play store that allows parents to monitor their child’s academic progress, attendance, classwork and grades.  In addition, this feature allows for online communication between home and school.

    • If you have questions about ParentVUE, or need to obtain your ParentVUE Activation Code, please contact Mrs. Malone at 378-7120, extension 7210, or email Deborah_Malone@ccpsnet.net.

    • In addition to accessing your child’s class information, parents have the ability to correct phone/email information currently in our student information system.  Please take a few minutes to review your information under the My Account tab in ParentVUE and make any necessary corrections.  NOTE:  parents cannot change addresses.  Please contact Mrs. Malone for further instructions to change your address.

  • Interact Club Information

    • Our first Interact Meeting will be September 14th from 3 to 3:45 in room 716.  For those new to TCMS, the Interact Club is a service organization affiliated with Rotary.  We meet, on average, the second Thursday of the month after school.

  • School Fundraiser

    • We will begin our annual Great American Fundraiser in one week.  This campaign allows us to fund many student programs and activities during the year.  We thank you in advance for your support.

    • We want to get an early start and ask you to help our school by taking advantage of our online store.  Students who have registered and have at least one online order sold during this next week will earn a prize at our kickoff assembly on September 12th, 2017."

  • TCMS Tech Club

    • TCMS Tech Club will have an informational meeting September 13 at 7:45am in the library.  See Ms. Woodroof if you are unable to make it to the Informational Meeting.

  • Girl’s Basketball

    • Girls basketball tryouts will start on Monday, September 11th

    • from 3:00pm until 4:45pm for all grade levels.  You must have a completed physical in order to try out.  Please see Mrs. Clark in room 707 for more information.

  • Timberwolves Unleashed Book Trivia

    • Do you love to read?  There will be a Timberwolves Unleashed Book Trivia Contest informational meeting on Thursday, September 14th at 7:45 a.m. in the library.  Join us to learn more about participating in this fall book trivia competition.

    • Students of parents who could not attend Back to School nights will be issued their schedules in the first day of school. We have a plan in place and students should receive their schedules and be in first period very quickly.

  • ParentVue Information

    • A strong partnership between teachers and parents helps increase the chances of a student’s success.  Chesterfield County Public Schools remains committed to engaging and involving middle and high school parents in their children’s education through effective two-way communication.

    • ParentVUE is a web-based tool and a mobile application available from the iTunes store and the Google Play store that allows parents to monitor their child’s academic progress, attendance, classwork and grades.  In addition, this feature allows for online communication between home and school.

    • If you have questions about ParentVUE, or need to obtain your ParentVUE Activation Code, please contact Mrs. Malone at 378-7120, extension 7210, or email Deborah_Malone@ccpsnet.net.

    • In addition to accessing your child’s class information, parents have the ability to correct phone/email information currently in our student information system.  Please take a few minutes to review your information under the My Account tab in ParentVUE and make any necessary corrections.  NOTE:  parents cannot change addresses.  Please contact Mrs. Malone for further instructions to change your address.

  • Fees Payment

  • Interact Club Information

    • Our first Interact Meeting will be September 14th from 3 to 3:45 in room 716.  For those new to TCMS, the Interact Club is a service organization affiliated with Rotary.  We meet, on average, the second Thursday of the month after school.

  • Girl’s Basketball

    • Wednesday, September 6th-informational girls basketball meeting after school from 3:00 until 3:15 in room 707

  • School Fundraiser

    • Our annual school fundraiser is an important part of helping provide necessary equipment and materials for our students. School Wide Fundraiser information will come home September 12th.

  • School Play Information

    • There will be an informational meeting for the school play on Tuesday, September 12th from 3:00 to 3:30 in the theater.

  • New Attendance Policy

    • This year, the county has altered its policy in regards to unexcused absences. Below is a brief summary of the policy:

      • 5 unexcused absences:

        • Parent contacted

        • Attendance plan created

      • 6 unexcused absences

        • Attendance conference with parents

      • 7 unexcused absences

        • County attendance office notified

        • Juvenile and Domestic Courts notified

    • This applies only to UNEXCUSED absences.

  • Chromebook Chargers

    • Your Timberwolf will be issued a Chromebook charger in September with their Chromebook. They will not receive another one. If the charger is lost, you are responsible for replacing it, the county will no longer replace them.

    • Chromebooks and chargers will be collected in December and new Chromebooks and chargers will be issued in January.

    • They will also be posted on the glass doors near the bus loop beginning Monday afternoon.

Welcome to this week's edition of the TCMS Timberwolf Tip Sheet, a weekly newsletter to help keep parents informed about what is going on around Tomahawk Creek MS. Every Thursday we will send out this informational e-mail to help communicate the great things going on here at Tomahawk Creek MS. each week, we will send out an electronic newsletter with information and important events and dates for parents. Please take a few minutes each week to read the newsletter so that you can stay informed about all the happenings at TCMS.

  • Our Digital Footprint

    • You can follow all the happenings at TCMS on several different social media platforms. The complete list can be found HERE.

  • Back to School NIghts

    • Our Back to School NIghts will be next week. Sixth grade will be on Tuesday, August 29th. Seventh and eighth grade Back to School NIght will be Wednesday, August 30th. The schedule for both nights is below:

      • 4:00-5:40-Schedule pick up. Parents and students can pick up their schedules and determine fees to be paid.

      • 5:45-6:15-Back to School Night presentation in the auditorium. Information on the upcoming school year will be presented.

      • 6:15-7:00-Back to School Night Open House. Parents may BRIEFLY meet with their students teachers for the upcoming school year.

      • 6:15-7:00-Schedule pick up. Parents and students can pick up their schedules and determine fees to be paid.

    • Students of parents who cannot cannot attend Back to School nights will be issued their schedules in the first day of school.

    • This year, we are STRONGLY encouraging parents to pay fees online at http://osp.osmsinc.com/chesterfieldva. You can also send in a check on the SECOND day of school.

    • We will have a fees day on Thursday, August 31st, but we will have limited staff available to take fees that day.
