Monthly Message From the Principal

March 2018

Well, March certainly has come in like a lion. Howling winds and more freezing temperatures. Spring is definitely on its way, though. It is hard to believe that we are halfway through the third nine weeks already. We have several school wide events going on right now, including our annual “Pennies for Patients” fundraiser, that benefits children dealing with leukemia. Our spring sports are also underway. Track and field and girls’ soccer are preparing for their first contests. Yes, spring break will be here before you know it, and then there is the mad dash to June. hang in there Timberwolves!

February 2018

Welcome to the second semester! One of the nice things about school is that every 18 weeks we get a fresh start. Now is a great time to talk to your Timberwolf and reflect back on the first semester. Ask them what went well. Ask them what didn’t go so good, and talk about what they learned from that experience. Most importantly, talk to them about how they are going to apply what they learned, what are they going to do differently this semester to make it a better experience. Don’t limit it to classes and grades either. Ask them about their relationships with peers, with adults. You might not get any answers, but at least you will give them something to think about. Happy Valentine’s Day!

January 2018

Welcome back! And Happy New Year to every Timberwolf family! I hope that your break was enjoyable, relaxing and filled with family and friends! It is hard to believe, but we are only a few weeks away from the end of the first semester. The second nine weeks/first semester end on Friday, February 2. Please check ParentVue to assess your Timberwolf’s progress. Do not hesitate to contact our teachers if you have any questions.

December 2017

December is here, and with it comes all the joy and hecticness of the holiday season. December also brings exams for high school credit classes (Algebra, Geometry, World Languages). As we prepare for Winter Break, the faculty and staff of Tomahawk Creek Middle School would like to wish you and yours a Happy Holiday Season! We will see you on tuesday, January 2nd, 2018!

November 2017

It seems impossible to me that we are already in November! The end of the first nine weeks is a few days away, and then we start getting into the Holiday season, with thanksgiving, the holidays and Winter break! The first nine weeks has been amazing start to the year. We have conducted our Cancer Awareness game and raised over $3200 for Catherine’s Fight (HERE is a link for more information), and our teachers are doing some amazing things in the classrooms with their Timberwolves. Make sure to follow us on twitter, Instagram and FaceBook to get updates on all our activities! Let me be the first to wish all of you a Happy Thanksgiving!

October 2017

Welcome to Fall! The leaves are starting to change, and as of this weekend, it seems the air is crisper and the temperatures are getting chillier! We are four months into the school year, which seems to be flying by. All of our Timberwolves seem to have settled into a routine, and our fall sports seasons are well underway. It feels like we have settled into our school groove for the year! I hope the school year is off to a good start for your family!

September 2017

It is finally time! We are so excited to welcome over 1500 Timberwolves on September 5th! We have been busy cleaning, hiring and preparing for their arrival since June 17th! I am confident that this is going to be a great school year. Throughout the course of the year, we are going to be celebrating our 10 year anniversary! Ten years of “Setting the Standard for Excellence”! This year we are going to be focusing on student growth and creating an environment of innovative and creative instruction! We will keep you posted about anniversary events as we move forward.

Welcome Back!!!!

August 2017

Well, I am not sure what happened to July, but August is officially here. We hope that your summer has been filled with trips, sports, family gatherings and some time to relax by the poolside! We have been hard at work planning, hiring and getting ready for the new school year since June 19th. We aren’t quite finished, but we are getting close! Check our website for information on Back to School NIghts and Fees Day as you prepare your Timberwolf for the 2017-18 school year. Also, read the latest blog post on getting ready for the new school year HERE . Enjoy your last month of summer and we will see you on September 5th!

June 2017

It is hard to believe how quickly this school year has gone by! June 1! Only 11 more school days before we wave goodbye to our 8th graders. We wish them all the best of luck at their respective high schools.

On behalf of the faculty and staff at tomahawk Creek Middle School, let me also take this time to wish all of you a safe, enjoyable summer break! We thank you for helping us make this a wonderful school year!

May 2017

Well, after a week of April showers, I am ready for some May flowers. We are rapidly approaching the end of the school year (where did April go?). Along with May comes testing season. Please take a minute to check out the SOL testing schedule, located on our website.  As we approach testing, please help us and your Timberwolf by doing the following:

  • Get a good night’s sleep before any test.

  • Eat a good breakfast the day of any test.

  • Try to avoid making dentist, doctors appointments during testing time.

  • Stress with your Timberwolf that this is important, but it is only one piece of information regarding their education.

As always, we appreciate your support of Tomahawk Creek Middle Schyool.

April 2017

We have completed three nine-weeks, we are 75% of the way through the school year. And the last nine weeks is the one that goes the quickest. We will be posting our SOL testing schedule in the next few days, and spring break is right around the corner. Before you blink, we will be conducting end of the year awards assemblies and saying goodbye for the summer. But now is not the time to relax, not yet at least! It is critically important that your Timberwolf finish the year strong. Please don’t hesitate to let us know how we can help.

March 2017

It seems like we have had an early taste of spring! I have already seen some of the flowers and trees blooming, and temperatures have been record setting. I am sure we will have one more taste of winter, but we should enjoy it while we can. During this time of year, it is critical that you keep up to date with your Timberwolves progress. This is normally the hardest time for students to stay motivated. As we move towards spring break, please keep in touch with your child’s teachers, especially if you see a change on your Timberwolves progress.

February 2017

The first semester has ended, and the second part of the school year has begun. Before we know it we will be anticipating warm weather and spring. But in the meantime, now is a great chance to plan for a fresh start. Clean out old notebooks, re-organize school lockers and restock school supplies for the next nine weeks. We also have several organizations conducting fundraisers this month, so be on the lookout for that information as well. Stay warm as we make the journey towards spring!

January 2017

Welcome to the New Year! I hope that every Timberwolf had some time to rest and recharge over the Winter Break! As a faculty and staff, we hope that 2017 will be a fantastic year full of new challenges and opportunities! Before you know it, we will be welcoming warm weather and spring. With maybe some of that “S” word falling from the sky in between!

If we can do anything to assist you, please do not hesitate to contact us.

December 2016

I hope every Timberwolf and their family had a wonderful Thanksgiving break! It is hard to believe that we are almost at our Winter Break. During the coming weeks, we have many concerts to help celebrate the season. Make a family trip one night to hear one of our outstanding musical groups perform. The schedule is on our website. Happy Holidays to every Timberwolf!

If we can do anything to assist you, please do not hesitate to contact us.

September 2016

June 2016

Memorial Day, June and soaring humidity...yep, summer is almost here! Our students are almost finished with their SOL testing, and the preliminary results seem to be very good, which is what we would expect. Our teachers and students have done a fantastic job of preparing for and taking the state tests. As we wind down another year, let us take this time to wish each of you a wonderful, fun-filled summer! We will see you in September!

April 2016

As of April 4, we have about 25 instructional days before the SOL testing window opens. This year, we will begin testing on May 9th. We will have the SOL schedule posted on our website soon, so that you can start planning with your Timberwolf. We will have more information coming in the next few weeks. It is important to remember that these tests are not the end all be all for your Timberwolf. We always want our students to do well, but these tests are just one part of what makes a great student. Stay tuned!

March 2016

So, supposedly March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb. With snow in the forecast (again) for Friday, march 4, this is apparently coming to fruition. Let’s hope that we get to that lamb, and then April showers sooner rather than later. Hopefully by the time spring break rolls around in three weeks we are sampling some spring time weather!

February 2016

It is hard to believe, but we are entering into the second semester of the school year. A new semester brings some challenges (new electives, for example), but it also offers some opportunities as well. The second semester is a chance to start fresh, with a clean slate. It is also an excellent opportunity to apply lessons learned from first semester, both academically and socially. Finally, it is a chance to demonstrate some determination. I have always felt that the third nine weeks is the most difficult of all. It is easy to lose motivation. Keep an eye on your timberwolf and make sure they are taking advantage of their opportunities!

January 2016

Welcome back to the New Year! All of us here at TCMS hope that you had a tremendous Winter Break! As we move towards the end of the first semester (January 29 is the last day), here are a few reminders for you and your Timberwolf:

  • Please make sure that your timberwolf is charging their Chromebook each night (including Sundays!).

  • Now is a great time to review your Timberwolves grades in ParentVue. Remember that you have access to additional information in ParentVue that is not available in StudentVue.

  • January is also a good time to check your student's school supplies and get anything they need.

  • The New Year also brings with it many open houses and informational sessions as schools begin planning for the 2016-17 school year. This includes high schools and specialty centers. It also includes planning for our scheduling process for next year. Check our web site frequently for information on these important events.

If you need any assistance or additional information, please do not hesitate to contact us!

Happy New Year from Tomahawk Creek Middle School!

August 2015

It is hard to believe that we are already in August. Our staff is hard at work preparing for the opening of school on September 8th. Currently I am working on our social media communications, putting the finishing touches on the master schedule and preparing for teacher work week. We are also making sure that the custodial staff is on schedule to have the building spotless and ready for our Timberwolves.

During the first week of August, there will be a new post on my school blog. The Timberwolf Tip Sheet for parents will start coming out again on Thursday, August 20th. Don’t forget to mark our fees days and back to school nights on your calendar. For sixth graders, it will be Wednesday, September 2nd. For seventh and eighth graders, it will be Thursday, September 3rd. The times for both days will be 11 AM until 5 PM for fees days. Back to School night begins in the auditorium at 5 PM both nights.

We hope that you enjoy the rest of your summer. Don’t forget to check our website frequently for the most up to date information on the upcoming school year.
