MathScience Innovation Center Student Enrichment Program

posted Sep 15, 2017, 2:24 PM by Kathryn Pawlyk

I am the department head for student enrichment at the MathScience Innovation Center and wanted to share some of our upcoming programs with you.  It is important that students not only explore STEM topics during the school day but also have opportunities to pursue their interests further through enrichment programs such as these.

October 21 and 28 we will hold our Little Innovators Adult/Child program for students in grades K-3.  A parent, grandparent, or mentor can spend a Saturday morning with their child exploring STEM topics through design and build activities, hands-on experiments, and problem solving challenges. Some topics include coding, chemistry, and weather. Little Innovators will be held at the MathScience Innovation Center (MSiC) as well as Spring Run ES in Chesterfield County. Brochures were sent to schools this week and registration is open.

In November we offer the Discoverers program which is for students in grades 4-5. Students have the opportunity to spend 3 Saturdays immersed in a STEM topic that interests them.  Courses are hands-on, minds-on, and inquiry based.  Many include field trips or special guest speakers.  Most classes will be held at MSiC but we do offer a couple at Manchester Middle School. Brochures for this program will be sent next week and registration is open Monday.

I am attaching the PDF brochure for each program as well as a jpg for Little Innovators that could be used on a Facebook page or twitter. Our website is www.mymsic.org. Please help us reach out to your students and families by posting the brochures on school/class websites and advertising on social media.  With your support we can get these enrichment opportunities out to all students.

If you have any questions or would like to talk more about our programs and how we can help foster an interest in STEM with your students please contact me.  I will send brochures for our winter and spring programs in the coming months as well.

Thank you for your support!

Sincerely,
Carrie
