Music

Music is such a vital part of life! In Chesterfield County Public Schools, individual grade levels have differing MUSIC “I Can” statements upon which students receive instruction during each grading period. Students learn about beat, rhythm, pitch, and the many opposites in music. Musical instruction continues with studies about individual composers, and learning about many different instruments, both folk and classical. Students learn about the individual elements of music; learn how to read music and play the soprano recorder (4th grade) and the concert ukulele (5th grade). Selected fifth grade students perform in the Festival Chorus at Chesterfield’s Fine Arts Festival in the spring. All fifth grade students sing in June at their graduation ceremony. In addition, there are individual grade level performances throughout the school year.
