Message from the Principal

Dear Reams Road Parents and Students,

Welcome to the best school in the county! As we journey through the 2018-19 school year, our theme is “Work Hard. Be Kind. Inspire dREAMS! The dREAMS is indeed written correctly as the letters stand for Diversity, Respect, Empowerment, Achievement, Motivation, and Success. We hope that you will consider how you can support your child and our students in these traits and goals. We will continue to focus on leadership as well. Our students experiences opportunities to be leaders through our Student Council Association, National Elementary Honor Society, Safety Patrol, Little Literacy Leaders, and more as well as in their own classrooms.

Our expectations include students taking charge of their own learning through daily reading, setting goals, and making positive choices. We encourage our students to be proactive and begin with the end in mind. We believe all of our students are capable of high achievement in reading, math, writing, science, social studies. In addition, our students consistently demonstrate the Core Values of Respect, Responsibility, Honesty, and Accountability. The county’s values will now include Integrity, Teamwork, Equity, and Ingenuity.

Reams remains fully accredited by the state for three years based on continuous performance! Our three-year average pass rate for SOL assessments are as follows: 83% in Reading, 81% in Math, and 71% in Science; Social Studies is only reported yearly and our fourth graders achieved a 73% pass rate this year. We all understand that one test on one day does not define a student or a school. Reams has achieved success with Project Based Learning over the past five years through a variety of projects. This past year, grade levels focused on driving questions and content that matched their grade level to collaborate, research, and present their work to each other and to other audiences. Reams Road Elementary is a very diverse school serving approximately 550 students including those who have special education needs, English as a Second Language needs, and socio-economic needs. Our students receive extra support when needed from specialists.

Reams is a school-wide Title I school which provides resources such as school supplies, summer school, and additional personnel to benefit all of our students. Parents are also an integral part of our school. Our grounds are maintained beautifully through a partnership with the school and the Parks and Recreation department. Our learning garden and courtyard allow our teachers to integrate the outside with academic activities. The community and P.T.A. support the school and athletic events in which our students participate. We invite you to visit our grounds and our Little Free Library where you can borrow a free book anytime.

Our website can keep you up to date with happenings. As you can see, Reams Road Elementary is not just about academics; we seek to serve and support the whole child. We invite parents and the community to attend our PTA events and special occasions held throughout the year. It indeed takes a village to help our students succeed. So, please volunteer to help when you can. We especially look forward to even more father figures participating in the Watch D.O.G.S. program. Let us know if you have any questions or concerns at any time. Feel free to visit our school and check out what makes us special. We are going to have an amazing 50th anniversary year!

Sincerely, Principal Jodi Seitz
