Message from the Principal

Dear Reams Road Parents and Students,

Welcome to the best school in the county! As we journey through the 2017-18 school year our focus is on “Growing Learners as Leaders at Reams.” We are beginning a journey to becoming a Leader in Me school where we weave habits of highly effective people into our culture and instruction. For example, students may be setting their own reading goals and creating a plan to achieve them. This is all about being proactive and beginning with the end in mind. These habits will help our students be leaders at school and home and in their academics too.

We believe all of our students are capable of high achievement in reading, math, writing, science, social studies, and of course success with the Core Values of Respect, Responsibility, Honesty, and Accountability. Our students achieved a pass rate of 81% in Reading, 86% in Math, and 83% in Social Studies on the SOL tests. Science was a challenge for the fifth grade group this year. However, our three year average for Science is 82%. We all understand that one test on one day does not define a student or a school.

Reams has been awarded full accreditation by the state for three years based on continuous performance! Reams has achieved success with Project Based Learning over the past four years and successfully implemented a school-wide theme of water for projects during the 2016-17 school year. It has been great to see our students collaborating, researching, and presenting their work as they grow in their 21st century skills.

Reams Road Elementary is a very diverse school serving approximately 540 students including those who have special education needs, English as a Second Language needs, and socio-economic needs. These students receive extra support when needed from specialists. Reams is a school-wide Title I school which enables us to provide resources such as school supplies, summer school, and additional personnel to benefit all of our students. Being a Title I School also means that parents should be involved in our programs too.

Our grounds are beautifully maintained through a partnership with the school and the Parks and Recreation department. Our learning garden and courtyard allow our teachers to integrate the outside with academic activities. The community and P.T.A. support the school and athletic events in which our students participate. We invite you to visit our grounds and our Little Free Library where you can borrow a free book anytime. As you can see, Reams Road Elementary is not just about academics; we seek to serve and support the whole child.

We invite parents and the community to attend our PTA events and special occasions held throughout the year. It indeed takes a village to help our students succeed. So, please volunteer to help when you can. We especially look forward to even more father figures participating in the Watch D.O.G.S. program. Let us know if you have any questions or concerns at any time. Feel free to visit our school and check out what makes us special.

With your support and encouragement, we will Grow Learners as Leaders at Reams!

Sincerely,
Principal Jodi Seitz
