Dear Reams Road Families:
Welcome back! I hope everyone had a wonderful summer! To our new families let me
introduce myself, my name is Jennifer Clemmons, and I am the PTA President for the 2017 – 2018 school year. To our returning families I am glad to be continuing in my position and supporting Growing Learners as Leaders at Reams! We have lots of fun and excitement in store for this year. The teachers and staff go out of their way to provide a safe and inviting environment, not just for our children, but for our families too.

We have many things planned for this school year and hope that everyone will enjoy them. We will continue to have Spirit Night at restaurants around town, and we also will be introducing some new family fun nights at local businesses. If you have any ideas for Spirit Nights please don't hesitate to let us know.

This year we would like for every family to join the PTA. The cost of a PTA membership is $7.00 per person or $10.00 per family. Your membership helps our PTA support our school in many different ways. We will also have several fundraisers this year and will use the funds we raise to pay for programs and activities such as Reflections, enrichment programs, classroom supplies and materials, yearbook and spirit wear, staff appreciation events, as well as a variety of after school family events that we plan throughout the year and also to aid in the academic progress of all students.

Our after school enrichment programs are currently being planned, favorites from the past years will be returning like Mad Science, Young Rembrandts, Yoga, Challenge Island and Drama Kids. Our programs meet on Thursdays for 4 to 6 weeks. Each of the after school programs has a fee. Most programs will be for Pre-K – 5th grade, some are geared toward grades 1-5. Be on the look for more information to come home with all the details. What programs would you like to sign your student up for? Please let us know.

The Reflections Art Program encourages and celebrates creativity in our schools. The theme for this year is “Within Reach”. Students can create original works of art in the categories of dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography and visual arts. Registration information will be sent home, but if you are interested in participating or have any questions please contact us.

Some of you may not be familiar with the PTA. Our motto is “Every Child One Voice”. PTA is about more than fundraising. We work with the Virginia State PTA and National PTA along with Mrs. Seitz, Mrs. Saady and parents to keep children safe and to make sure they are provided with an atmosphere that promotes learning. The “A” in PTA stands for All. PTA is a powerful voice for all children, not just your children or mine but ALL children. We are a relevant resource for families and communities. We strongly advocate for the education & well-being of all children. By joining the PTA you are giving a voice for your child.

Attending our monthly PTA board meetings will give you a venue for your voice to be heard. Our board meetings are typically held the third Tuesday of every month at 6:30pm in the library. Please join us! As a group we can make a difference in our school and in our community. Please consider joining the PTA and helping to support your child’s school in any small way you can. You can find us on Facebook as Reams Road Elementary PTA and email us with questions/concerns/comments anytime at reamspta@gmail.com.

Clipping box tops is one of the easiest ways to support the PTA. Each box top is equivalent to 10 cents. Box Tops is one of America’s largest school earnings loyalty programs. You can send Box Tops to school anytime. The PTA can use Box Tops cash to buy anything needed for the school. Last year our school earned $1,262.20 from Box Tops, let’s hit $1,500.00 this year!
