RAIDER REPORT FOR THE WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 18 through SEPTEMBER 22, 2017

posted Sep 18, 2017, 5:01 AM by Joan Rucker   [ updated Sep 18, 2017, 5:01 AM ]

Happy weekend Robious Middle families!

All middle school students are completing MAP assessments in reading and math last week and this week. MAP® Growth™ measures what students know and informs teachers what students are ready to learn next. By adjusting the difficulty of questions as each child responds, MAP Growth creates a personalized assessment experience that accurately measures performance—whether a student performs on, above, or below grade level. Students can set goals and teachers can use reports from the testing to differentiate instruction.

Click here for information on high school specialty center fairs. Robious Middle will also be offering a specialty center information night on Wednesday, October 11 in the forum at 6:30 pm.

Check it out! The latest issue of the CCPS literary magazine, Write Now, has been published and several RMS students have excellent pieces that earned a place in this annual. Click here and search "Robious Middle."

James River High School Field Hockey athletes are raising their sticks for hurricane relief. Click here for more information.

The Clover Hill High School choral department is sponsoring a "stuff the truck" drive for victims of Hurricane Irma.  Because Raiders CARE, we would love for our families to contribute.  Clothing items and shoes are not able to be collected, but they are in need of several other items.  The following list is a good resource:  https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1HpvXseoTvLIUR1w5pnMSyMG3isOi8-KpeNwBY8m2ERc/edit?usp=sharing
Donations can be taken directly to the CHHS truck located at the WalMart at Hancock Village (off Hull Street). The truck is open for donations Monday-Friday from 4-7, Saturday 10-7, and Sunday from 1-7. Donations can also be brought to Mrs. Longo in the chorus room at Robious.  All donations brought to Robious must be received by Wednesday, September 27th by 3:00 pm. Donations to the truck itself can be accepted as late as Thursday, September 28th

RAIDER REPORT FOR SEPTEMBER 11 through SEPTEMBER 15

posted Sep 10, 2017, 6:59 AM by Joan Rucker   [ updated Sep 10, 2017, 7:00 AM ]

Wow, I can't believe the first week is already over! It was great having all of our young scholars in the building and beginning their courses!

Chromebook distribution will be on Monday (9/11). Please make sure your student has turned in the Mobile Device Agreement and the $50.00 fee. Without both of these, we cannot hand your student a Chromebook. Also, please help our young scholars charge these devices every night so that they will be ready to use in school everyday.

Backpacks, cellphones, and dress code: Please review the student handbook/agenda with your student. Some of the highlights: Backpacks are not allowed to be carried during the school day, they need to be in lockers, but students are permitted to use a drawstring bag during the school day. Cellphones are not to be seen or heard during the school day. Please secure cellphones in your locker, if you must bring one to school. Remember, no rips, holes, tears, or frays above the knee. It doesn't matter if they are transparent or not. Thank you for your understanding.

Don't forget to join the PTA. Click here for more information. The first meeting is Monday (9/11) at 7:00 pm in the library. All are welcome.

Please do not drive through or park along the front/main entrance during student entrance and dismissal times. Cars obstruct the path of buses.

6th Grade Back to School Night is Tuesday (9/12) from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.

Check it out! Mrs. Swenck is in Richmond Magazine! Click here

Many thanks to Yardworks for donating the dirt for our garden!

There will be a cross country informational meeting on Monday (9/11) from 3:00 - 4:00 pm in the cafeteria. Tryouts will be on Tuesday (9/12), Wednesday (9/13), Thursday (9/14), and Friday (9/15) from 3:00 - 4:30 pm.

Boys soccer tryouts will be on Monday (9/11), Tuesday (9/12), and Wednesday (9/13) from 3:15 - 4:20 pm.

It's going to be a great year!

Here's a message from your Robious Middle PTA:

Welcome back parents!

Your RMS PTA will be at schedule day for you to renew your membership or join for the first time.  Memberships are $10 for an individual or $20 for a family.  You may also make a tax deductible donation to the Raider Fund at that time.  So, be sure to bring your checkbook on 8/31 when you come to get your child’s schedule.  Membership dues & donations to the Raider Fund are the main funding sources (in addition to Kroger Rewards & Box Tops) for our PTA.  For those of you new to RMS, the PTA tries to do all of our fundraising up front – we know you want a break from the on-going fundraising that was done at the elementary school level.

RMS Spirit Wear will be available as well for purchase – check or cash only.

The RMS PTA is once again participating in the denim drive sponsored by Goodwill.  Bring your outgrown denim on 8/31 and we will take care of getting it to the collection sites.  Deadline for turning in denim is 9/22.  We have won gift cards the past three years so let’s keep the streak going!

Please check the Robious Middle School PTA Facebook page for announcements and a listing of open volunteer positions.  The PTA wants your help!

Thanks in advance for your support of RMS PTA!

Heather Craven

PTA President
