Our Spring Sports season starts Feb. 12th. We are currently looking for 2 Head Coaches for our Track Team. As soon as we can fill these spots we will notify parents and students about upcoming informational sessions for Track. If you are interested in coaching track please contact Mrs. Burkett at Catherine_Burkett@ccpsnet.net.

My name is Kayla Foliaco and I am a senior in the James River High School Leadership and International Relations Specialty Center. As part of our senior year, we are required to complete a minimum 60 hour Capstone project to benefit our community in some way. I chose to use my capstone to benefit the ASK Childhood Cancer Foundation, an organization that helped my best friend and project partner, Jessica Fulghum, when she was being treated for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia back in 2010-2012. Obviously this is a project that hits very close to home with us, so we wanted to make it special. We began planning our project back in August, deciding that it would be two-fold. We would first host a photo shoot for young girls being treated for Leukemia (this took place in December), then we would put on a fashion show, open to the public, so that the girls could have a chance in the spotlight and, we could further fund raise for ASK (This will take place this month!). We affectionately named this Capstone: Project Princess, after the amazing girls that it will feature. At the show, we will premiere a short film starring the girls, and each girl will walk the runway wearing an outfit of what they would like to be when they grow up. We hope to have a huge turnout to our event so if there is any way you could advertise this throughout the Robious community that would be incredible! The event will take place on Saturday, February 17 at 7:00 p.m. at James River High School, and all other information can be found on our websitehttps://kaylafoliaco.wixsite.com/projectprincess

RAIDER REPORT FOR THE WEEK OF FEBRUARY 5, 2018

2018 - Week of February 5

posted 13 hours ago by Derek Wasnock   [ updated 3 hours ago ]

This week is National School Counselor Week! School counselors are the unsung heroes of education. Martha Turner, Carolyn Mallory, Melanie Smith, Elizabeth Farner, and Brooke Olson deserve more than a week of recognition. I honestly don't know how they manage everything that they do for every stakeholder at RMS. They log an incredible number of hours and much of what they do is behind the scenes. They are always ready to drop everything to help anyone with anything. The RMS community is extremely fortunate to have such dedicated and positive individuals as our school counselors. Be sure to thank them...often

February is Black History Month and it is a time when we remember and recognize the important contributions and achievements of African Americans throughout our nation's history. We are recognizing this important month in a variety of ways. On Friday, February 2nd-Storyteller Charmaine Crowell White presented a re-enactment of Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad for 6th grade from 8:45-9:45. Some of our 6th-grade students will be performing on stage with her. 7th and 8th grade English classes will be sharing excerpts of books from Black authors and sharing video clips from some of the authors. 6th grade English classes will be doing mini research projects on famous Black Americans highlighting their major contributions and creating a Google slide presentation. Certain classes are studying and going to see the famous play, A Raisin in the Sun. They are also studying excerpts from Lorraine Hansberry's To Be Young, Gifted, and Black as well as the poetry of Langston Hughes. We will also be reading several Black History facts on the morning announcements each day.

Charlotte Bray designed and created our PBIS logo! See a photo of the logo below. She did a great job!

Congratulations to the following students who auditioned and were selected to represent Robious this past weekend at the 2018 All District Band:
Aedan Bryant - 3rd chair bassoon
Michael Cummins - 6th chair horn
Elizabeth MacPhail - 18th chair clarinet
Benjamin Roberts - 3rd chair oboe
Sadie Turner - 8th chair horn
They worked very hard over two days to put on an outstanding concert Saturday at Monacan High School. Great job District Band Students!

Congratulations to Matthew Klausner, cello, Nathan Lee, violin 1, Ashton Foldenauer, bass, and Molly Nelson, violin 2 for their fabulous performance in the A orchestra at Manchester HS on Saturday. They represented Robious at Central Regional Orchestra. They made us proud. Great sounding group!

If you know of youth, ages 13-21, who would benefit from a fun-filled, youth-led summer summit focusing on self-determination skills, please share this announcement with them.

8th grade students interested in applying to Code RVA - the applications are due February 23. Click here for more information.

All 8th graders and their parents are invited to an information night at James River High School on Tuesday, February 6 at 6:30pm.

RAIDER REPORT FOR THE WEEK OF JANUARY 29, 2018

posted Jan 29, 2018, 5:43 AM by Joan Rucker   [ updated Jan 29, 2018, 5:43 AM ]

I encourage everyone to take the time to nominate one of our outstanding teachers for a prestigious REB Award. Click here for more information.

I also encourage all of you to take the time to nominate a deserving student for an Outstanding Youth Award. Click here for more information.

Congratulations to Avery Redmond and Josh George who participated in the "Clash of the Titans" Speech and Debate Tournament at Cosby High School on January, 20. Both students competed in the speech category, with Avery performing poetry excerpts from "Brown Girl Dreaming" by Jacqueline Woodson and Josh gave an original oratory on Feminism.

Click here for information on the RMS Drama Club.

Exercise for a cause this Super Bowl weekend at acac Midlothian’s 11th Annual Ber’s Bowl! Join us Friday, February 2-Sunday, February 4, as acac Midlothian opens its doors and offers free group exercise classes to the public to raise money for pediatric cancer research. For every group exercise class a member attends, we’ll donate $1 to Cookies for Kids’ Cancer. Plus, we’ll donate $5 for each class a non-member takes! Click here for more information.

Reminder: If a student has lost his/her agenda, he/she can purchase a new one in the main office for $2.00.

We will be issuing new Chromebooks to all scholars on Tuesday, January 30th. Please remind your scholar to bring in the charger and the Chromebook. If he/she has lost the Chromebook there is a $100 fee that must be paid before a new one can be issued. Please keep in mind that purposeful damage or a lost Chromebook results in a $100 fee. If accidental damage occurs three times, there is a $100 fee. Please remind your scholar, in addition to charging it every night, to take care of the Chromebook. This means not leaving it out for a younger sibling to play with or carelessly tossing a backpack around with it inside.

Congratulations to Mrs. Coulliard and Mrs. McDonald who studied and took the earth science PRAXIS exam. They are now both certified to teach earth science. Kudos for taking on this professional development.

Congratulations to Mrs. Inge for being our Teacher of the Month!

Congratulations to Mr. Jackson for being our Employee of the Month

Congratulations to our School Resource Officer, Officer Woolson who earned an advancement. He is now Corporal Woolson!
