Art Contest

posted Sep 24, 2018, 9:55 AM by Joanna Blanks   [ updated Sep 24, 2018, 9:56 AM ]

Armistice WWI 100th Anniversary Student Art Contest
is open to students from K thru 12 and the winners will receive a certificate and monetary award, and their sponsoring teacher will also win $100 for use in the classroom.

Student artwork will be on display at the Carillon for the November 11th Armistice Day Event

This art contest is being co-hosted with the Virginia World War I & World War II Commemorative Commission.

Event Info:
2018 marks the 100th Anniversary of the conclusion of the First World War.  At 11:00 a.m. on November 11th, following the national “ringing of the bells” and the Veterans Day Ceremony at Dogwood Dell, there will be an educational and family fun event held at the Carillon from noon until 2 p.m.  There will be music, historical interpreters, artifact displays, crafts, and games, and the event is free to the public.

They will accept both 2 and 3 dimensional works.  It is the  hope that the submissions will not just be about the war, but could also include works about the Carillon itself (which is the Virginia WWI Memorial), or perhaps poppies, or doughboys in uniform, or even a scene of Paris, where the Peace Treaty was signed in 1919.
