African American History Month-Thurgood Marshall

posted Feb 8, 2019, 5:09 AM by Charlene Downing

February is African American History Month. In order to honor the contributions that African Americans have made to the United States, we will be sharing facts about prominent historical figures over the announcements each week. Today, we celebrate the contributions of Thurgood Marshall.

Thurgood Marshall was the 1st African American Supreme Court Justice. He was appointed to the highest court in the nation in 1967 and dedicated his career to fighting for justice and equality. Before his appointment to the Supreme Court, he was an important leader in the Civil Rights Movement, having argued the Brown v. Board of Education case that declared racial segregation in schools to be unconstitutional.
