Grade 6:  Beginning Orchestra

 

Students will Explore music though hands on learning and will learn to play an ochestral instrument (violin, viola, cello or string bass). Most students provide their own instrument; however, several school-owned instruments are available to loan.

Basic Music skills will be taught for students to acquire a reasonable level of ensemble performance proficiency. Public performance is included in the grading process.  The student will be receptive to music practices and music from various cultures.

 

Grade 7:  Intermediate Orchestra


The primary focus of the intermediate orchestra class is the further development and expansion of basic skills learned in sixth grade beginning orchestra.  Most students provide their own instrument; however, several school-owned instruments are available for  loan.  Students will study bowing technique, music reading and notation, scales and ensemble playing though  fun and challenging literature from various genres and cultures.  After school performances are mandatory and included as part of the grading process.

 

Grade 8:  Advanced Orchestra

 

Students will continue to refine their technical skills and expand their knowledge of music expression on violin, viola, cello or string bass.  Most students provide their own instrument; however, several school-owned instruments are available for loan.

There are many opportunities for this group to perform. They will learn and appreciate music from various genres and cultures.  After school performances and rehearsals are mandatory and are included in the grading process.
