Teacher of the Year 2016-17

Meadowbrook High School is proud to announce Mr. Leroy Hughes as our 2016-17 Teacher of the Year!


About Mr. Hughes:

LeRoy Hughes is a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University and has a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education. Upon graduating from VCU he began his employment with Chesterfield County Public Schools, where he taught for nine years. While in Chesterfield, he had the opportunity to serve as music director of several school musical productions, such as “Guys and Dolls”, “Fiddler On the Roof”, “Into the Woods” and “Annie” as well as a production of “Godspell” at Woodlake United Methodist Church.

In 2006, he transferred to Hanover County, where he taught for two consecutive years. Mr. Hughes has taught music on the elementary, middle and high school levels. He has served as guest conductor for Chesterfield’s All-County chorus, Fine Arts Festival Chorus, Hanover County’s All-County Chorus, as well as adjudicator for annual All-District Chorus and various festival events in the state of Virginia. Mr. Hughes has also been very active in music ministry, both as a soloist and as an accomplished choral conductor. He has had the opportunity to serve in churches throughout the city of Richmond. He has served as the Associate Director of Fine Arts of Saint Paul’s Baptist Church. In this position, he directed five choirs and supervised the entire fine arts department as well as musicians at the church’s Belt Campus location. He is currently serving as Director of Music Ministry at The Light Community Church in Henrico. In August of 2012, Mr. Hughes served as guest conductor for Kaleidoscope’s Children’s Choir in Blackstone, VA and recently as choir director at Cougar Quest (an after school choir at Collegiate School). For both of these events he rehearsed and prepared a choir of school age children for performances. Mr. Hughes is currently in his 19th year of teaching, as the choral director at Meadowbrook High School in Chesterfield County. He is strongly supported by his beautiful wife, Mereal and three handsome sons, Jaden, Joshua and Jeremiah.
