Principal's Message

July 24, 2017

Dear Matoaca Family,

It is with great excitement that I welcome each of you to the 2017-18 school year at Matoaca High School. I could not be more thrilled to reunite with the students and families for whom I have worked and served at both Matoaca and Carver Middle Schools, respectively, while promoting a sense of togetherness, spirit, model citizenship, and academic excellence. While we are transitioning through a leadership change, please remain confident that the positive traditions valued by the Matoaca community will continue to thrive. As well, new initiatives and partnerships will focus on what is best for our students and how we can best meet their needs. A new school year brings with it a sense of excitement and renewal – fresh starts, new teachers and friends, and ways to become invested in our school community through extracurricular involvement.

Appreciating that it will take all of us to put our best Matoaca forward, please join us at the following events to be better prepared for the upcoming year:
  • Fee day (Grades 10-12): Wednesday, August 23rd from 9:00am-3:00pm
    • You will be able to pay fees, fill out all paperwork, obtain parking decals, tour the building, drop off medications, join the PTO, etc. You may come at a time most convenient for you during this time frame.

  • Orientation and Fee day (9th and New Students): Thursday, August 31st from 9:00am-12:00pm
    • Please arrive by 9:00am as this is a formal program during which students and parents will be exposed to the Matoaca way. Following the orientation activities, you may pay fees, receive your schedule, fill out all paperwork, purchase Warrior Wear, etc.
  • Back to School Night: Monday, September 25th from 6:00-8:00pm
The Matoaca community is one that is built upon shared input and togetherness. With this in mind, there are many opportunities to give back through volunteerism. As well, our PTO and respective booster organizations are only as successful as the number of active members. Please consider a leadership role, attending our monthly meetings (check school website), or simply becoming a member to better activate your voice in our shared vision of doing what is best for our Matoaca community.

The Matoaca faculty and staff are thrilled to kick off the upcoming school year and welcome Matoaca’s finest, our students, into their respective classrooms. Please enjoy what remains of summer vacation and know that I look forward to working alongside each of you once again as we are better as One. One School, One Community, One Matoaca. Go Warriors!

All in,

John T. Murray, Ed. D.
