Teacher of the Year, Bethany Dancey 2017.jpg

Congratulations to 2017 Teacher of the Year,

 Mrs. Bethany Dancey!

Ms. Dancey has taught at Hening for 11 years.  She has taught 4th grade, and is currently one of our ESOL teachers.

Mrs. Dancey graduated from VCU in 1999 with a Bachelor’s in Mass Communications. She worked as a conference planner before deciding to return to school to earn her Master’s Degree in Teaching in 2002.

Mrs. Dancey taught in Dinwiddie County for 3 years teaching 4th and 5th grades. In 2006, she moved to Chesterfield County and was relieved to stay in 4th grade as she loves teaching Virginia History and math. She also found that she loved teaching homerooms with ESOL students.  This prompted a return to college for a 3rd time to earn a certification as an ESOL teacher.  The last two years she has been an ESOL teacher at Hening, leading small group instruction in reading, writing, and math at all grade levels.  She has been very excited to learn more Spanish in her current role!

Mrs. Dancey serves as the lead SCA advisor at Hening.  She is the mother of three, all currently attending Chesterfield County Schools.  She spends most of her spare time as a mom-taxi, also enjoying reading and watching Netflix.
