Brief History of Hopkins Elementary
Hopkins Elementary School was constructed by the Chesterfield County School Board and
designed by the architect and planner, C. Page Highfill and William Moseley of Richmond, Virginia.
The school was opened in the fall of 1975 and was named for the road on which it was built. Its structure was flexible and its design was modern. Being situated in a rapidly developing area, the school continued to grow in pupil size from its original opening in September 2, 1975 with an enrollment of 515 students from Kindergarten through 5th grade. Since 1977, Hopkins Elementary has enrolled students in Kindergarten through 5th grade.
In January, 1985 the original structure was renovated to provide enclosed classrooms for a self-contained operation. An additional 12 classrooms and a computer lab were added during the 1985-1986 school year. Since then we have added a gymnasium.
