Pre-Kindergarten & Head Start

Harrowgate Elementary is fortunate to have two preschool programs. The Prekindergarten class is funded through the Virginia Preschool Initiative and the Head Start class is funded by the federal government. Our preschool programs are designed to provide eligible children with the readiness skills that will prepare them for kindergarten while respecting the ethnic and cultural backgrounds of each child. Both programs provide a comprehensive, individualized, developmentally appropriate preschool education program using a research based curriculum that is aligned with Virginia's Foundation Blocks for Early Learning and focuses on the development of the whole child. Each classroom has 16-18 children, a licensed elementary teacher and a full time assistant. Preschool students ride the regular school bus and attend during the regular school day.

To be eligible for the preschool programs at Harrowgate, children must be four years old by September 30th, show a certified birth certificate, and reside in the Harrowgate attendance zone. Placement in the program is determined by educational need based on the results of the screening process. Registration is done through the county Prekindergarten department. They can be reached at 804-279-7357.

Attached, you will find the fliers for the Chesterfield County Pre-Kindergarten program in English and Spanish.

Parents are an integral component of our preschool programs and are encouraged to volunteer in their child’s class.
