4th Grade

In fourth grade, teachers help students learn to become very responsible for class work, homework, and for long-range assignments. Organization is an important skill developed by our fourth grade students. Use of assignment books and subject binders allow students to have their work with them throughout the day and at home in the evenings. In language arts, our work is based on novels read in small groups, and students fine-tune their writing skills to prepare for the 5th grade writing test. Fourth graders are given the opportunity to study the history, economics, and government of Virginia by using primary resources and hands-on activities. In science, fourth grade students study a variety of topics including living organisms, weather, and electricity. Two wonderful field trips are taken by our students each year. They visitPamplin Historical Park near Petersburg and the Virginia Historical Society in Richmond.
