Go-Go Girls

Go-Go Girls started at GHES for the first time in 2016. It is a school based program coached by 4 teachers, Rebecca Dudding (grade 3), Michelle Melara (Spanish), Chrissy Fitzgerald (grade 4) and Nicole Walter (Kindergarten). 15 girls from grades 3 and 4 participate in twice weekly meetings for about 10 weeks and the program culminates in a 5k run with family and school members. The 5k run is in the spring and the training begins in mid-February. During each after school meeting the girls learn about healthy ways to deal with different situations they may encounter. They play games to reinforce healthy behaviors and they have a snack. Each lesson also includes some running as part of the training for the 5k. Each participant gets a cool t-shirt for participating. The day of the race is so much fun with good music, nail painting, hair painting and tattoos for everyone. Families are encouraged to participate. More information will be presented to the 3rd and 4th grade girls in early February. The program does require that the girls attend every meeting in its entirety so the girls will be asked to apply only if they can commit to that requirement. If more than 15 girls apply, names will be chosen at random to participate.
