Ms. Strutton's archery class.

The FCMS Health and Physical Education department follows the same mission as the VA Department of Education:

Physical education provides students with the knowledge, processes, and skills to become physically educated, physically fit and responsible in their physical activity choices and behaviors for a lifetime. Virginia's standards for physical education are grouped into five strands: skilled movement, movement principles and concepts, personal fitness, responsible behaviors and physically active lifestyle.

The mission of the Health and Physical Education department is to assist students in acquiring the knowledge, processes and skills needed to make healthy decisions to improve, sustain and promote all areas of health and engage in meaningful physical activity both in the present and for a lifetime.

The standards in each strand are sequenced to progress in complexity from grade level to grade level. To see each grade levels standards you may visit the doe.virginia.gov/instruction/physical education or doe.virginia.gov/instruction/health education. We look forward to and are excited about working with your child. Our main goal is to prepare your child to live a long, active, healthy and productive life.
