Greetings Chalkley Students and Families,

I hope that everyone has had a fun and exciting summer vacation!

It is with great excitement that we welcome everyone back for another amazing school year at Chalkley Elementary! As the new principal of J.A. Chalkley, I am ready and committed to ensuring the success of each and every student. Our teachers are working hard to prepare for all the upcoming learning that will take place within and beyond our school walls. To assist our students with their transition back to school, I’ve included some important information and reminders for the first week of school.

School hours are from 8:25am - 2:55pm. During the first two weeks of school we will begin dismissing parent pick up students and students who ride the daycare van at 2:45pm from the cafeteria. Beginning the third week of school they will be dismissed at 2:55pm. Additional information is forthcoming regarding parent pick up procedures.

It is highly encouraged that students ride county transportation to and from school. However, If you are a parent/guardian of a car riding student, please adhere to the signage that is posted on the car loop in the front of the building. This will ensure the safety of our students as they exit the vehicles and that the process operates smoothly.

Open House Picnic will be held on Thursday August 31st from 2:00pm - 6:00pm. Teacher assignments for the upcoming school year will be shared during Open House. It is an opportunity for you and your child/children to meet and greet the teacher and drop off school supplies as well as enjoy a meal.

During Open House, you will receive a packet of information that contains important documents. Please return all necessary documents with your student(s) on the first day of school, September 5th.

We will have two separate Back to School Nights. Grades K-2 will be September 14th and Grades 3-5 will be September 28th. The times for both are 6:00pm - 8:00pm. We encourage all of our families to attend to learn about grade level expectations.

One of our goals for this upcoming school year is to increase our outreach to families. I believe that it takes a village to raise a child and our families are a very crucial part of that village. One of the first steps to accomplishing this is to continue growing our Parent Teacher Association (PTA). Our PTA meets every third Tuesday of the month. Enclosed in your child’s back to school packet is a membership envelope to join our Chalkley PTA. Please consider becoming a member so that we can work collectively to support the needs of our students. Additionally, I am inviting all of parents to join me for our new “Chalkley Chat”. This will be an opportunity for our families to share ideas, hear about what is happening in our school, and be a voice for our students. Please be on the lookout for additional information in the near future.

We look forward to a successful school year supporting the growth of all of our learners. If you have any questions, ideas, or concerns please do not hesitate to contact us at (804) 674-1300. Additionally, please follow our story on Twitter at @NBoonePrincipal. We will be updating this page often with school news, student and teacher successes, and all the great things that are happening at Chalkley. We cannot wait to see everyone!

Yours in Education,
