School Information:

J. A. Chalkley Elementary school opened in September of 1962 in the suburban county of Chesterfield, Virginia. The school was named for John Alvin Chalkley, Sr. who served as a school board member from 1922 to 1944. The original building appeared to have 33 classrooms and a cafeteria. Throughout the years many renovations were made to the school to accommodate growth in the student population. Veteran teachers report that at one point Chalkley enrolled over 1100 students!

Currently, Chalkley has approximately 900 students enrolled in grades Pre-K through grade 5. Our student body is comprised of a diverse group of students who bring many strengths to our school community. We constantly seek new and innovative ways to support our learners and families so that we can continue on the path to growth and success.
